COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Not your typical "Jelly of the Month Club" beer. Dark roasted malt and bittersweet cocoa and coffee flavor and aroma burst from this pitch black milk stout. The full body and sweetness are derived from the addition of lactose (aka milk sugar) which is not fermentable by beer yeast. A healthy dose of English Kent Goldings hops provides a counterpoint to this ale’s rich and complex maltiness.

From Farmhouse on tap. Aroma of chocolate. Dark brown/black with off white head. Chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and caramel tastes. Slight creamy body. Overall, I enjoyed this Kentucky stout and I’m wanting to taste more from this brewery.

Roasted malt and bitter chocolate start this brew out. The coffee pulls through in the end and lasts through the finish.

Coffee nose, light yeast. Black, thick sticky beige head. Coffee, beechwood, potting soil, sarsparilla accents. Good balance and transitions. Charred oak finish. Really dirties up the palate. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Good stuff.

Bottle. Black pour with a tall, dense, frothy brown head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, yogurt and sour milk notes. Big yogurt, chocolate and roasted malt with light tobacco, cocoa, brownies and soured chocolate milk. Body is medium with a dense, bubbly carbonation. Light lingering tartness too. Ends with more roasted malt, dark chocolate, sour chocolate milk, cocoa, coffee and light tobacco.

22oz bottle pours a murky, opaque black with some creamy, off white head. Nose has plenty of toasted bread, some chocolate, a little pain chocolat, caramel, a little cream soda, some cola too. Flavor has more milk chocolate, some croissant, caramel, cola, cream soda. Full bodied, slick finish. Kinda neat, the Mrs and I liked it.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; no bottle date, but was recently released. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, dark bread, cream, light vanilla, herbal, woodiness, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, lactose, and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, dark bread, cream, light vanilla, herbal, woodiness, and roasted earthiness. Slight herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, roast, coffee, toast, dark bread, light vanilla, cream, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, lactose, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a very creamy, smooth, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice sweet stout style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, lactose, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is all that tasty milk sugar, some roasted malt, and a bit of sweet Eastern European chocolate. Taste is similarly sweet with a mildly bitter counterpoint. Nice body, however. Overall, quite nice.
