Not your typical "Jelly of the Month Club" beer. Dark roasted malt and bittersweet cocoa and coffee flavor and aroma burst from this pitch black milk stout. The full body and sweetness are derived from the addition of lactose (aka milk sugar) which is not fermentable by beer yeast. A healthy dose of English Kent Goldings hops provides a counterpoint to this aleís rich and complex maltiness.

The aroma is malt, coffee, slight chocolate. Pours almost black, tan head mostly diminishing, little lacing. The taste is a slight sweet and a slight bitter. The body is medium, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish long. Very Good!!

Enjoyed at home in a snifter. Pours a deep black with a very thin mocha head. Some lacing. Aroma is chocolate cocoa powder, graham cracker, nuts, roasted malts, marshmallow, and hint of vanilla. Taste is slight bitter chocolate, heavy roasted malts, sweet milks, vanilla, and marshmallow. Thick mouth like an oatmeal stout. Medium carb. Roasted, nearly bitter finish. Dry as well. Very nice.

Bomber pours an opaque dark brown/black with small tan head that quickly turns into good lacing. Aroma has roasted malts, mocha, dark fruits, and vanilla. Taste is sweet and slightly spicy with a drier finish. Body is medium to full with lively carbonation. This one is to be enjoyed slowly. I ignored the strange artwork and weird text hype on the label, and enjoyed it anyway.

On tap at the Prado Taco Mac. Pours black, with a thick, creamy, brown head. The nose is milk chocolate, mild toffee, powdered milk, and syrup. Very sweet flavor, with no roasted bitterness or off flavors. Medium to heavy body, creamy, silky, and clean. This is a really nice stout; tasty and smooth, with no off-putting flavors.

On tap. Served a blackish color with a fair head and some lacing. Aroma of Roasted malt, with coffee and dark chocolate aroma in the background. Taste of malt, nice touch of chocolate and coffee and bit of spice. Nice bitterness and a dry finish. Full body, rich and creamy, nice feel of the coffee and chocolate without being overpowering. Enjoyable beer.

I like a lot more than this rating. The problem is that this claims to be a sweet milk. Itís more imperial and very smoking with almond. Love it, but not true to style. Tap
