Not your typical "Jelly of the Month Club" beer. Dark roasted malt and bittersweet cocoa and coffee flavor and aroma burst from this pitch black milk stout. The full body and sweetness are derived from the addition of lactose (aka milk sugar) which is not fermentable by beer yeast. A healthy dose of English Kent Goldings hops provides a counterpoint to this ale’s rich and complex maltiness.

Draft. Deep brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Flavor follows with some light residual sweetness and a light mineral quality in the finish. Medium body with soft carbonation. Solid except for the slight mineral taste.

On tap at the 109 Brewhouse. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of roasted malts, some coffee and dark chocolate. The taste was similar to the aroma with brown sugar, licorice and somewhat dry and roasty. Awesome

22 oz bottle shared by ebone1988. The pour is a nice dark brown/black with a nice dark khaki head and some decent lace. The aroma is very milky. There is a ton of lactose and a maltiness. Light licorice and a good sweetness. The flavor is good. There is a strong lactose on the front end before it rolls through a great roastiness and it remains pretty basic. The mouth feel is good. A little thin, but well carbonated and decently velvety. The aftertaste is lingeringly milky and a little funky. Good, heavy on lactose. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A nice milk stout with a good amount of sweet roastyness but a quick bitter-esque finish. Toasted malt and coffee linger and it is a bit more carbinated than I’d prefer but solid overall.

On draft at Tap 25. It pours dark brown with a light brown head. The aroma is nice with roast, chocolate, hints of cola, cherry and coffee. The flavor is the same. Nice cherry vanilla cola notes with some background notes of nuts, roasted malt and smoke. A bit more coffee in the finish. Pretty tasty, but overpriced.

This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking dark hazy brown really close to a black color. A one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated within less than about forty seconds leaving some moderately messy lacing. The smell had a big luscious sweet milk chocolate with a superb roasty to robust coffee, maybe a lil bit of espresso running in to balance. The taste was mainly sweet with an ample back up of the roasty coffee to try and balance. A nice sweet to roasty blended aftertaste slides into a nice sticky finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light allowing the roastiness to really grind out the feel on my tongue. Wait, did I say grind, haha, not really, this is so smooth with the roasty milk chocolate running into my tongue. Bitterness, oh what bitterness, haha. Overall, what a wonderful milk/sweet stout that I would love to have again. Oh wow!

draught@Erzbierschof; as Imperial Milk Stout - black beer with a long lasting beige foam; roasted aroma of dry coffee and nuts; a good malt backbone, sweetish lactic palate, quite thick yet creamy; long sweetish chocolaty and lactic finish
