Keg at CBC Clerkenwell - London. Pours clear, brown-black with a fine, tan cream head. Exceedingly rich but still pretty nicely balanced. Lots of chocolatey malts, raisins. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Oily chocolate in the finish, some boozy warmth. Very tasty.

19th November 2013
Craft Clerkenwell. Keg. Opaque black beer with a small tan head. Nose is pure bourbon barrel and darl malt lovliness. Palate is suprisingly light and mildly crisp from superfine carbonation. Smooth and semi sweet creamy dark malt with the expected oak smoothness. Vanilla and toasted coconut. No roast or bitterness in this one. Fruity bourbon with just a touch of spice. No real heat. If there can be such a thing as an easy drinking 13.1% beer - this is it!

On tap at PSBH, Manchester. Pitch black with a thin brown head. Big aroma of chocolate, treacle and molasses. Iím also picking up some underlying raisin and figgy fruit. Nice milk chocolate taste, similar to the aroma but roastier and tobacco-edged. Very good stuff.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at Craft Beer Clerko, 22/10/13.
Light black with a good sized tan head that clears to a swirl.
Nose is big roast, liqourice, treacle toffee, light spice, hot chocolate goo.
Taste comprises subtle bourbon notes, molasses, chocolate fudge, light boozey vein pumping through, decadent choccy woccy doo da.
Full bodied, viscous and velvety, smooth on the palate with a moderately booze coated finale.
Great stuff, the alcohol is well integrated and this is ridiculously easy to drink for 13% !

Keg at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell. Pours treacle-like black. Little head, very soft carbonation. Aroma of coffee, molasses, vanilla, soil. Taste of espresso coffee vanilla ice cream with a hint of smoke and hop bitterness. Despite all that complexity, quite easy to drink.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Keg at Craft Clerkenwell. It pours darkest brown with a small tan head. The nose is rich roast, treacle, vanilla, toast, earth, berry, liquorice, wood and light spice. The taste is rich, roasty, toast, salted caramel, chocolate, vanilla, jammy berry, stewed orange, liquorice and some smooth alcohol warmth. Full body, soft carbonation and oily mouth-feel. A big beer for sure, yet remains pretty drinkable. Tasty.

On tap in a mug. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some oak and bourbon, a little milk and chocolate and coffee, and a light bitterness. Flavor the same with a nice blend of malts and bourbon. Smooth texture. Could have a little more bourbon but good overall.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black, very thin tan head. Smell is great - lots of vanilla, oak, roasted malt, and chocolate. Taste is similar, with lots of bourbon and chocolate flavors especially. But there is a slightly cloying sweetness to the taste that keeps this beer from greatness.
