COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tastes Great and Smells Great...you gotta freak that.
This Smoked Porter has a rich, chocolatey and roasted malt flavor, which compliments the smokiness contributed by the addition of nearly 300# of beechwood smoked barley malt. English Maris Otter malt provides a sweet malty base while chocolate, crystal and roasted malts add color and complexity. Hopped with East Kent Goldings from the UK, resulting in a nice balanced flavor between sweet malt, smoke and hoppiness. 15°

Aroma of slightly woody smoke, bitter chocolate, and resin. Appearance was black with creamy tan head. Flavor really had a pretty decent amount of smoke, but the smoke seemed have some odd chemical properties. The base porter was nice and bitter, with just the right amount of sweetness. Palate was bubbly. A little off from what I was expecting, and it felt a little less "authentic" than the other smoked offerings from the same brewery.

Draft. Deep brown, approaching black, body with a fizzy tan head, slowly diminishing. Aroma mostly smoke and sweet malts — caramel and toasted grain — with a hint of chocolate. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter with the bitterness lingering. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The smokiness is far from overpowering and that’s nice. The sweet malts and bitterness round out the beer, though neither contribute much on the flavor end.

Draught at brewpub. Not sure if this listing is the same one I had today. Today’s listed that it was aged in French Oak. But the name was the same. Odd and interesting mix of wheat and oak. Not sure where to place the taste. It’s as if the honey has gone extreme and freaked out.

Pours deep red to black. Beer engine lends little head. Nose is sweet malts and balanced smoked meats and roasty chocolate. One demensional roast is in the flavor all f with pleasant smoke and toasted mats. Dry bitter finish and smokey. Not bad but a little dry for my taste.

Tap (growler). Smoked meat, hay and malt aroma. Opaque black-brown color with moderate head. Smoky wood, light chocolate malt flavor with a mild bitter herbal hops finish. A bit funky. One of the hoppiest smoked beers I’ve ever had.

Draft sample. Poured clear dark brown color with an average fizzy light brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate smoke sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a dry smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium complex sweet smoke flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectation where met.

Another smoked release, this one was a little better than Who Shvarted? Even so given the name I was expecting a little less heaviness. This is not really that much of a mild ale given there were three other beers with a lower ABV.

Aroma / Appearance - Inky black and fluid the beer swirls around the glass like watered down coffee. With a mysterious edge the nose contains raspberry syrup, smoke, malt, and liquified ham. All combine into a feel like an ash tray.

Flavor / Palate - Liquid smoke and ham are the main drivers. A dry finish tickles the senses leaving the palate wanting more. A little too heavy for a session beer and too simple for a bigger ABV release it is hard to know what to make of this. Still credit has to be given for trying a rarer style.
