COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally an Against the Grain Brewery and Brouwerij De Molen collaboration beer. For the first incarnation, De Molen head brewer Menno Oliver hopped in a muscle car and drove straight through from the Netherlands to Louisville, KY (that’s USA folks) to brew this bourbon inspired ale, and we liked it so much, we decided to do it again. We took the ingredients in bourbon whiskey (Barley, Rye, Corn) and then smoked them with cherry wood and brewed a huge imperial stout with them. Then to top it off we aged it in Pappy VanWinkle Bourbon Barrels. The resulting beer is rich, smokey and complex, with a bourbon character of caramel, vanilla and spice. Bottle has orange reddish orange) wax top. Only the first version was aged in Pappy barrels. Draft at Blind Tiger with Paul, Andy, and Tom. Pours a jet black body with very minimal lacing. Aroma is sweet bourbon, light cocoa and roast. Mouthfeel is rich with notes of chocolate, oak, bourbon, molasses, toffee and melted caramel candy. Nice.

750 mL bomber. The pour is a dark brown work some good dark khaki head and a minimal lace. The aroma is very licorice based. There is a strong woodiness and a great vanilla. The smokiness is really profound here. Good roasty malt. The flavor is delicious. There is a wonderful bourbon character. The vanilla and licorice pop through the duration of the flavor. The love the dark fruits. The mouth feel is thick and viscous with a great carbonation and a lovely mouth feel. I love this beer. The aftertaste is smokey and bitter. Just great light vanilla and lovely bitter roasty tones. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared by Menno, thanks! Aroma of dark fruits, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, oak and coffee. Really soft and silky creamy texture and subtle roasty bitterness in the flavor. Lovely balance. Nice brew.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours dark brown (nearly black) with shimmers of ruby and a small, fleeting, white head. The aroma offers De Molen’s standard fudge characteristic, apple wood-like smoke and only rumor of bourbon. Full-bodied with a buttery mouthfeel and tickling carbonation. The flavor shares deeply roasted mocha – espresso and dark chocolate – and a small ration of bourbon. Thanks to dmschefke for shipping this world class beer my way!

Poured from bottle to glass. Dark hue with fizzy brown brown head. Aroma is smoke, caramel, toffee, cola, umami. Mouthfeel is great with a full body and crisp carbonation. Taste is sweet with an umami following and smoky finish. Overall this is a very nice brew.

Share by Dave. Aroma is cigar ash, dark coffee, and slight firewood. Pours black with a bubbly brown head. Taste is ashen, roast coffee, dark chocolate, burnt oak, and slight caramel/cherry from the barrel. Overall a little too smokey to really appreciate any barrel tastes going on. Still a great rauch. Cool bottle.
