COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally an Against the Grain Brewery and Brouwerij De Molen collaboration beer. For the first incarnation, De Molen head brewer Menno Oliver hopped in a muscle car and drove straight through from the Netherlands to Louisville, KY (that’s USA folks) to brew this bourbon inspired ale, and we liked it so much, we decided to do it again. We took the ingredients in bourbon whiskey (Barley, Rye, Corn) and then smoked them with cherry wood and brewed a huge imperial stout with them. Then to top it off we aged it in Pappy VanWinkle Bourbon Barrels. The resulting beer is rich, smokey and complex, with a bourbon character of caramel, vanilla and spice.

On tap at Blind Tiger for VSK. Found that although the aroma was a rather equal balance of smoke and bourbon, smoke overpowered the boubon taste in the end. Nonetheless, a fantastic, complex offering.

750 ml bottle, kindly shared by Dennoman. Pours deep dark brown with an amber hue and a medium creamy beige head. Immense rich nose of subtle bourbon, vanilla, peat, cherry oak and candi sugar. Thick body with a nice silky mouthfeel, slightly peaty and smoky, slight bitter kick to it as well. One of the most refined flavours out there when it comes to stouts, one of the best Molens to date.

02.07.2014, 0,75l bottle @ home:
Small slightly bubbly mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich, dark malts, salty licorice, oak, dark sugar, caramel, grass, whiskey, smoked peppers, soy sauce, chocolate pudding, vanilla, toast, coffee, spices. Taste is slightly sour-ish dry, oak, grass, burnt caramel, whiskey, coffee, hay, dark malts, spices, minerals. Longlasting bitterness, dry and almost a little watery mouthfeel. Fair enough, kind of expected a lot more from this one...

Poured a dark black color with aromas of smoke, malt, roast, chocolate, light vanilla, and some bourbon. Flavors match the aromas, lots of smoke and ash in the flavors, not my kind of thing, but decent overall.

75 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with a little sediment and a tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and roasted malt - with a bitter finish.

Bottle @ a recent bottle share... Poured jet black with a light tan, khaki head. Roast and smoke along with dark chocolate here. Both in aroma and taste. Bit of barrel and whiskey notes but the charred, smoked grains stay present throughout. Complex and certainly delicious.

Dark brown body with a medium tan head. Strong malty aroma with chocolate, vanilla, plums, some smoke and alcohol. Taste is quite smooth sweet with a strong licorice and alcohol taste. Finish is also smooth with a warming alcohol feeling. Just wish I had this in the winter and not in 30 degrees Celsius.

Bottle with orange wax. Black body with high frosty brown head. Aroma has light smokey notes with bourbon wood right away, honey, nutty. Taste has medium smooth bourbon sweetness, very light noble bitterness. Balance is excellent, very smooth after taste. Body is full, high carbonation, very soft.
