3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 29, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Mike! Deep brown, nearly black, thick and still with a quick fading tan head. Aroma is rustic woody smoke, meaty and peaty, liquid smoke, mild oak, smooth bourbon, some sweet underlying malt, mild caramel. Taste is a nice concoction of warm but smooth bourbon, some sweet, liquid smoke, mild campfire woodiness, light cocoa sweetness and some burnt and roasty malts. Smokey, woody, only lightly sweet cocoa finish. Warmth is there but only hits back end. Medium body, almost sticky mouth feel. Very unique and tasty beer.
Update: Another bottle, this time from the second(?) release? Thanks to Tom. Still a lovely beer, though the aroma didn’t blow my mind as much as it did the first time. A little less smoked meat & booze... Just a little more timid all around. Enjoyed it supremely, nonetheless.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma - beechwood, dark roast, some caramelized sugar, oak and Bourbon.
Appearance - body is a very dark bistre brown. The head is tan and well over 2+" and settles very slowly. Alcohol cloying that draps head and alcohol.
Taste - there is a mix of beechwood smoke, rich roast, dark caramelized sugars, oak, Bourbon, caramel, orange peel, some biting hops, a little bit of vanilla and spice. Extremely well balanced.
Palate - full body, slick texture, on the verge of being lively in carbonation, and a slight hop bitterness and alcohol astringency.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, 2013, thanks to Peter! Pours clear black, large tan head, dissipates slowly, good lacing. Aroma is really in the molasses directlion, cocoa, tobacco, bourbon, vanilla, black licorice. Flavor is pretty sweet, light bitter, rich molasses and anise flavors along with bourbon, hints of smoke, but pretty light overall, more like a dark roastiness. Very well integrated and really smooth. Full body, a bit less creamy than the best but still quite nice. This is an outstanding impy.
