COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally an Against the Grain Brewery and Brouwerij De Molen collaboration beer. For the first incarnation, De Molen head brewer Menno Oliver hopped in a muscle car and drove straight through from the Netherlands to Louisville, KY (thatís USA folks) to brew this bourbon inspired ale, and we liked it so much, we decided to do it again. We took the ingredients in bourbon whiskey (Barley, Rye, Corn) and then smoked them with cherry wood and brewed a huge imperial stout with them. Then to top it off we aged it in Pappy VanWinkle Bourbon Barrels. The resulting beer is rich, smokey and complex, with a bourbon character of caramel, vanilla and spice.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2014 Bottle: thanks, Mike! Deep brown, nearly black, thick and still with a quick fading tan head. Aroma is rustic woody smoke, meaty and peaty, liquid smoke, mild oak, smooth bourbon, some sweet underlying malt, mild caramel. Taste is a nice concoction of warm but smooth bourbon, some sweet, liquid smoke, mild campfire woodiness, light cocoa sweetness and some burnt and roasty malts. Smokey, woody, only lightly sweet cocoa finish. Warmth is there but only hits back end. Medium body, almost sticky mouth feel. Very unique and tasty beer.

2014-08-15. Black body with a small tan head. Aroma of sweet dark malt, sweet bourbon and vanilla. Flavour is rich, sweet dark malt malt, bourbon character is less pronounced than in the aroma. Smooth medium to full bodied palate, soft carbonation. Richly tasty but not super complex. Bottle at Campground Brewdown

750ml bottle shared thanks to Lukaduke! Pours rich charred brown with small head. Nose is roasty earthy bitter chocolate, smoky booze, dark fruits. Taste is rich roasty cocoa, bitter earthy chocolate, bourbon fruit, layered smoke. Finish is fruity smoky burnt wood and nice bitter chocolatey dark fruit. Smoke is nicely balanced and works well, hard to do and they pulled it off well.

Bottle thanks to Jstax ! Pours a rich burnt umber color with a finger plus of gaseous khaki foam. The nose is a nice blend of sweet whiskey influence layered with notes of dark cocoa and smoked malts. Palate follows the nose nicely and the real highlight of this beer is the interplay of bourbon and smoke. Beautifully balanced they both play leading roll with a nice carbonated roasted cocoa playing the supporting roll. Vanilla, peat, warm bourbon... delicious !

750 ml bottle. Tick #6000. Having a picnic and drinking this. And itís +28 degree celsius outside. Anyways, pours a pitch black colour with a thick, beige and small head. Aroma of smoked wood, licorice, earthiness and some cigar. Rich flavour of roasted malts, elegant bourbon notes, syrupy sweetness, vanilla, some milk chocolate, tart wood and tar. The cherry notes are rather subtle at first, but the cherry tartness with sticky syrupy sweetness get stronger towards the end. Finishes with smoked meat, tar and bourbon. Dry. Full bodied and very soft carbonation. 13 % ABV is extremely well hidden. Itís like milk.

75 cl bottle. Thanks lusikka!
Pours jet black color with a small beige head. Bourbon and mild cherry notes on the nose, smoky malts, caramel, chocolate and distant vanilla. Very smooth malty palate, chocolate, cocoa, bourbon and faint cherries. Not overwhelmingly aggressive, quite soft actually. Excellent.

Thanks to errl for sharing this Batch 2 bottle. Dark brown to black pour with a brown head. The aroma ha some heavy smoke and chocolate notes. The flavor is similar. I get some big smoke notes with some chocolate, whiskey, oak and roasted malt. The barrel notes really add to what seems like a very nice smoked imperial stout. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Glad I got to try this one.

750 ml bottle, kindly shared by Dennoman. Pours deep dark brown with an amber hue and a medium creamy beige head. Immense rich nose of subtle bourbon, vanilla, peat, cherry oak and candi sugar. Thick body with a nice silky mouthfeel, slightly peaty and smoky, slight bitter kick to it as well. One of the most refined flavours out there when it comes to stouts, one of the best Molens to date.
