COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oak aged Dopplebock.
This dopplebock is brewed with high quality Munich and Pilsner malts balanced with Hallertau and Saaz, and fermented with a lager yeast. Dopplebocks are traditionally relatively dark and malty German lagers and sometimes are denoted with the “ator” suffix. While this is a great dopplebock, we at AtG weren’t satisfied until we shoved some wood in it. The addition of oak gives this beer subtle flavors of toffee, chocolate and coconut, while providing some dryness to balance this beers malty sweetness.

Pint jar from Party Town. Clear reddish brown pour with a medium tan head. Malty aroma with caramel, dark fruit and roasty notes. Caramel and alcohol flavor with a bit of nuttiness before a bitter roasty finish. Solid d-bock.

Moving on to the halfway point of the sampler flight I savored this one for a while. A well done dopplebock can stand up to some barrel aging. This one does an acceptable job and grew on me over time.

Aroma / Appearance - The ruby red base was the color of dying embers after a large bonfire. Clingy legs slunk down the sides. Vanilla, caramel, and a sweet candy texture coated the nose with the feel of a bakery. Melted Wurthers and esthers added the final touches.

Flavor / Palate - The dry mouthfeel immediately coats the palate which actually makes it harder to enjoy future sips. If the alcoholic nature was reduced slightly the cherries, caramel and other flavors would be more rich. Instead it is like drinking a warm sunbeam. In fact by the end a slight medicinal aspect crept in. Overall a good attempt but maybe a little off kilter.

Draft. Poured dark brown hue with a moderate light brown fizzy head that lasted with good lacing. Good toasted toffee malt aroma. Medium to full body with a dry sticky texture and soft carbonation. Very good well balanced toasted sweet flavor with a moderate to heavy smooth dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Solid doppelbock.

on draft a darker brown color with minimal head. trying not to compare to other dopplebocks but they kept coming back to mind. this was a decent flavor the sweet malty caramel type and the hint of cherry. flavor was good enough though i did enjoy.
