COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smokey, Chocolatey,...Orangey??? That’s right a smoked brown porter with orange zest. We start out with Maris Otter base malt and add cherry smoked malt, chocolate and honey malt giving a sweet smokey and chocolatey beer. Then the zest of many oranges is added after the boil to complement this beer’s smooth and complex flavors.

Aroma of smoked chocolate, caramel and waffle cone. Appearance is dark brown with no head. Flavor has a nice smoke/chocolate balance with slight waffle cone. I didn’t pick up any orange. Palate is some oily and lightly bubbly. Good.

Draft @ Hoppy Loft.

Draught @ Christian Firtal, Odense. Pours hazy very dark brown with small light tan head. Sweet, dark aroma of fruit, malt, sherry barrel, and alcohol. Clear, vinous aroma, with notes of fruit and sherry barrel. Warming alcohol presence. Tastes more than its official ABV. Vinous finish. OK

On tap at Christian Firtal. Brown with a tiny off-white head. Aroma of bready malt, plum and peat smoke. Malty and fruity flavour, with a roasted note and too much peat...

This sounded promising, but I was disappointed. The biggest problem is that this beer is too sweet, which doesn’t go well with the smoked malt. The honey and chocolate are a weird addition as well, they don’t match. A shame.

Draft to taster. Looks good; a dark cola with light beige lacing. Smells solid; dark malt and chocolate with light smoke. Tastes like it smells, but less balanced. Average on the palate. Started better than it finished.

Growler. Hardwood smoke, tobacco, and chocolate aroma. Deep mahogany with a minimal head. Sweet leathery smoke, roasty, chocolate flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation.

On tap sampler flight at the Against the Grain brewpub in Louisville, KY. Opaque, black-mahogany with a khaki head and lacing that starts quite well, but does not linger. Aroma of smokey and sweet roasted malt, Kentucky smoked BBQ sauce and orange. Taste of sweet and smokey Kentucky hickory BBQ sauce, chocolate and orange zest. Medium/full body and low carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
