COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jerrytall is an “Old” or “Stock Ale” in reference to 19th century breweries that would age this style a full year before serving. Old ales were normally amber to dark brown in color and malty sweet with complex acidic and dark fruity notes. Against the Grain’s take on the style obviously does not include the one year aging period, but we brewed our version with high quality English Maris Otter barley and acidulated malt to give a bit of an acidic tang.. Then we hopped liberally with English Nugget and German Hersbrucker. Fermented with a Scottish style yeast, resulting in a complex, rich and malty ale.

Draft at Jerry’s. Copper with modest, whispy white head / Delicate, peculiar nose of sour grass and turning melon rind / Medium body, somewhat sour and acidic, some sweetness, excellent balance and lightly bitter finish / Elegant flavors of fresh caramel, melon rind, grass, nut, / Positively odd, but I grew to really like it.

Draft to taster at AtG. Looks solid; a mostly-transparent burnt-orange with thin white lacing. Smells and tastes solid; sweet malt and caramel. Average on the palate. A touch boozy, but still quite enjoyable.

Draft. Sour red cherry and orange malt aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Sweet musty lactic orange malt and light farmyard flavor. Alcohol well subdued - tasty and easy drinking.

On tap in a sampler glass. Pours copper/brown with an off-white head. Aroma of cereal and caramel malts plus a good amount of floral hops. Flavor the same. Average to smooth texture. A pretty good beer.

Aroma of figs, nuts, red grape and sweet bread. Appearance is light copper with white head. Flavor of sweet, complex malts overall; there is definitely some sort of fruitiness going on. Palate is bubbly and soft. Tasty.

Draught at Lexington Beerworks. Matly almost barley wine. With caramel and brown sugar. A bit of candy. I really liked this. It improved as it warmed.
