English style barleywine aged in Angelís Envy bourbon barrels. Brewed with enough Maris Otter pale, Aromatic and caramel malts to nearly overflow our mash tun. We then balanced this beer with some English Nugget and Kent Goldings hops. The resulting ale was sweet, nutty and powerful, but we didnít stop there. The entire batch was put into used Angelís Envy barrels for nearly 3 months to gather the residual bourbon flavor and some aromatic and drying oak notes. By the way, Balling is a measurement of specific gravity.

On tap at Mariaís. Pours a clear deep amber brown with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots bourbon with some sweet grains, a bit of vanilla and a hint of sweet fruits. Flavor has lots of vanilla, sweet grains and cookie with a strong bourbon backing.

Sample at Culmination Fest: Poured a copper orange with a thin head. Aroma was bourbon, sweet caramel malts and wood. Taste was super sticky to the taste-buds with caramel malt, nice smooth vanilla, bourbon alcohol, and finished was strong.

On tap at Ridgewood (Raleigh) Poured a slightly reddish amber. Sweet aroma with hits of caramel. The bourbon adds a nice touch to this beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Had this on tap at the brewery and it was an outstanding twist on barleywine. The bourbon is there on the long finish and the notes of vanilla and caramel are a welcome addition to this brew. Glad to have tried it and look forward to having it again. Grab one if you can.

On tap at green lady... Pours a mostly transparent caramel orange consistency and topped with a creamy faint beige head... Vanilla, oak with a slight spicy booziness and dark fruits on the aroma... Vanilla and dark fruit flavors, faint licorice and barrel like quality. Dark fruits and light spice. Smooth creamy bodied with light carbonation. Somewhat boozy with a modicum of earth on the backend.

draft at Farmhouse Tavern, Chicago. muddy purple brown body, small ring of a head. heavily oxidized brandy / plum / sherry / port / caramel malt nose with distinct notes of mold, anise, juniper / gin, overripe cherries and apricot. chewy full body with well-integrated bourbon (coming across more as brandy) and alcohol. flavorful and appripriately barrel-treated. lingering finish of spice, pepper and wood against the baseline of already mentioned fruit / alcohol.

This is something for those who like barrel aged barleywine. Big sweet and lots of vanilla. Not too sticky but very rich. Touch of alcohol burn but not bad. Touch of coconut which is always nice. Good beer for sipping.

On tap at Farmhouse Tavern. Pours hazy brown with small light tan head. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and some dark fruits. Flavors of bourbon, vanilla, earthy hops, sweet caramel malts, and just a touch of dark fruits. ABV is well hidden and I found this to be pretty drinkable for such a big beer. Barrel gives nice touch, but lacks the complexity needed to make this beer truly special. Nice find on tap.
