COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English style barleywine aged in Angel’s Envy bourbon barrels. Brewed with enough Maris Otter pale, Aromatic and caramel malts to nearly overflow our mash tun. We then balanced this beer with some English Nugget and Kent Goldings hops. The resulting ale was sweet, nutty and powerful, but we didn’t stop there. The entire batch was put into used Angel’s Envy barrels for nearly 3 months to gather the residual bourbon flavor and some aromatic and drying oak notes. By the way, Balling is a measurement of specific gravity.

Tap. Bourbon malt and cherry aroma. Cloudy brown color with small head. Sweet toffee malt, bourbon and cherry/berry flavor. Smooth as silk - incredible blending. Can’t believe this is 12.5%.

Bottle. Pours a ruby reddish orange with a small, very brownish head. Aroma is a lot of bourbon whiskey, oak and vanilla. Not a lot of else, light caramel. Taste follows along the same lines. Begins with a lot of bourbon whiskey, vanilla and oak without the overwhelming booziness. A strong layer of caramel in the background. A lot of vanilla on the finish with some whiskey. Not a whole lot of booziness for the 12.5% ABV. Vanilla whiskey toffee. Full with medium carbonation. Not too pleasant, more like sipping whiskey than drinking beer.

Leicht trübe orangebraune Farbe, geringe beige Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr holzig, intensiv malzig, Vanille, Bourbon, Dörrbost, alkoholisch. Geschmack sehr stark nach Karamell, Bourbon, holzig, viel Vanille, reife Früchte, alkoholisch, sehr intensives und interssante Bier, toll!

12oz bottle. Poured a deep mahogany color with a wispy beige head. Big bourbon up front on the aroma with notes of sweet fruit, caramel and cake. Flavors were bourbon heavy with notes of vanilla, wood, candied fruit and a touch of smoke. Plus mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Nice warming finish. IMHO this is up there with Bourbon County, Angel’s Share and other BBA barley wines. Awesome stuff.

Paleish coppery clear with a thin ringed off white. Soft toasted coconut nose slips into the initial taste, dry and peppery vanilla. Clean and chewy, bit of dried orange and passes the ABV out the back door before you notice. Lean crisp bitter linger before more loose sweetness.

Bottle at Craig’s house. Appearance - deep amber with a nice thin lacy head. Nose - toffee and honey, just a hint of the expected orange. Taste - bitter seville orange. Palate - medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long tangy finish. Overall - the taste is great.

Bottle at home. Orange brownish drink with thin quick cream white head. Aroma is sweet malts, fermented fruit and alcohol. Taste is true barley wine. Fruit, strongwine, whisky, butterscotch flavour and wooden hops. Mediumly carbonated and full palate. Enjoyable but a bit too sweet barley wine for me.
