COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English style barleywine aged in Angelís Envy bourbon barrels. Brewed with enough Maris Otter pale, Aromatic and caramel malts to nearly overflow our mash tun. We then balanced this beer with some English Nugget and Kent Goldings hops. The resulting ale was sweet, nutty and powerful, but we didnít stop there. The entire batch was put into used Angelís Envy barrels for nearly 3 months to gather the residual bourbon flavor and some aromatic and drying oak notes. By the way, Balling is a measurement of specific gravity.

Tap. Bourbon malt and cherry aroma. Cloudy brown color with small head. Sweet toffee malt, bourbon and cherry/berry flavor. Smooth as silk - incredible blending. Canít believe this is 12.5%.

12oz bottle - nose is akin to cherry flavored cough syrup. Sip is BA for sure and boozy. Reminds me of Unibroueís Quelque Chose. A sipper for many reasons, both bad and good. For the ABV, easy to drink and mildly detectable.

12 oz. stubby bottle from The Party Source. Pours a clear dark reddish amber color with a medium sized creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have big caramel malts, bourbon, vanilla, oak, dark fruits, a slight nutty character, slick, moderately viscous mouth feel, just a touch of bitterness to the finish, unquestionably an English style BW, I think the barrel works pretty well here.

Funny looking bottle. Deep amber, light haze. Sweet malty, buttercreamy toffee malts on nose with some herbals. Full bodied, quite smooth, thickish somewhat oily but finishes on a clean nice note. Malty. Sweet malty, soft coffin, smooth nice body. Really well made barleywine. Butterscotchy, smooth, sweet without the ick.

Reddish brown pour. Aroma is malts, caramel and bourbon. Taste is sweat malt, some hops, Candi sugar, caramel and bourbon. This is flavorful, complex and big. Bourbon is strong. Well done.

Bottled. Pours slightly hazy amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of ripe fruit, wood, caramel and bourbon. Sweet flavor that ends up slightly more dry with avhint of bitterness and alcohol. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft to flat carbonation. An excellent barley.

12-oz stubby. $9. The price is right, but itís amusing to pay that much for a stubby. And find a 12+% BW in it. Pours a murky dark brown with a briefly surging tan head that scurries back to the old country after a few seconds. Big sticky sweet treacle, shortbread, and molasses nose. Body is fairly watery for the ABV, nose, and style. Still big and sticky, but kinda sloshy. Caramel, shortbread, molasses, treacle on the mid palate. Long sweet finish. Much better when blended to an ASA with some 8% rye dipa.

Pailhead (5371) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - MAR 2, 2015
Bottle: The aroma consists of fruit, caramel, raisin, oak, light alcohol, sherry, coconut, vanilla, bourbon, and a touch of mint. It pours a mostly transparent brownish-orange with a three finger khaki head that quickly fades to a thick film. The flavor starts with moderate toffee, lighter, fruit/citrus, and caramel. The finish has light-moderate raisin, light buttery vanilla, oak, bourbon, and and a touch of mint. It tastes big, but the 12.5% abv is hidden very well. Itís medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat sticky mouthfeel.

12 oz bottle. Pour is a hazy, semi opaque brown, looks similar to fresh cider with little to no head. Smell is somewhat boozy with heavy bourbon, vanilla, carmel, and apple. Taste syncs ups well with the aroma, lots of bourbon, vanilla and caramel that lingers with some nice toasted malt notes that pop during the after taste. Medium carbonation gives a slightly effervescent but just right mouthfeel for this full bodied, somewhat sticky brew that coats the palate. Very good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
