COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Truly a ground breaking beer, this Barrel aged Rauchbier was an attempt to replicate the flavors present in Islay Scotch Whiskey. We used Munich malt as a base and added copious amounts of Beechwood and Peat smoked malt, which provides the intense smoky and earthy peat flavors found in Scotch. Then the addition of Alderwood smoked salt lends a crisp brininess that is reminiscent of the sea air in the Islay region of Scotland. Aged in used Angel’s Envy Bourbon Barrels to give an intense caramel, vanilla and whiskey flavor.

A very good peaty smoked beer. Their is something else in the flavour except for the regular peat which make it complex and interesting. A good beer!

Thanks to errl for sharing this bottle. Orange-amber pour with a white head. The aroma is straight ashy smoke with some toffee. The flavor is a bit more complex. I get some strong ashy smoke as well as a bit of oak and some bourbon sweetness. I also get a hint of salt in the flavor. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Another strange smoked beer...a decent attempt to duplicate scotch. Cloudy orange pour. Campfire, bandaid, and barrel in aroma. Taste is peat, smoke, whiskey, caramel. Finishes with a smokiness and sweetness that lingers.

Bottle. I hate AtG’s wax with a passion but that’s beside the point. Anyways, slightly hazy amber pour with an almost beige head. Big smokey aromas, slight bourbon barrel and lots of malt. Flavor is sweet smokey malts with touches of vanilla and caramel. This doesn’t really remind me of scotch though, I love the smokiness and all around it’s a decent beer but I’ve had scotch ales that remind me more of scotch than this. In that respect it missed it’s target IMHO. Still, cool concept and worth a try for sure.

Bomber into stein with the kind dewaxing assistance from the honorable AndyReynolds - nose is clearly barrel aged something and peat. Strong flavors with the smoke leading the way but the body disappoints. ABV hidden. Sweetish mess. Got what I expected especially after reading the ratings.

Bottle thanks to Chudwick sweet fine ass. Pain in the ass to get the wax off. Interesting aroma with that bandaid smell I’ve come to expect in barrel aged smoked beers? My dog has a dingleberry and my daughter has a sweet ride according to MR. Wick. Not a bad beer, but not mind blowing.

22, capped and waxed. Pours a clear bright amber with a big sudsy heavy pale tan head. Big sweet caramel and campfire nose. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Caramel, peat, and campfire on the mid palate. Long sweet smoky finish. Nice but fairly unremarkable.

Taster on tap at Party Town. Clear orange amber color. Thin ring of sort of bubbly off-white head. Very interesting... Some smoked apple, and salt in the aroma. Get some of that islay whiskey, sort of peaty. Aroma is more mild than expected overall, though, Medium body. Light carbonation. Lightly slick. Moderate bitter taste, light to moderate sweet, with an interesting saltiness towards the end. Interesting, unusual stuff.

Bottled. This one is pretty smokey, not as over the top as some other brews but nice smoke flavor.
