COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewing this beer is not only science it’s a shart.
For the most part a double strength Belgian IPA aged with toasted American oak. This ale has a base of pale ale, aromatic, and caramel malts, upon which is set an American hop triumvirate of Columbus, Centennial, and Cascade. The addition of Belgian Abbey ale yeast provides a spicy, earthy, breadlike character that is truly unique. Lemon and grapefruit zest enhance the citrusy and piney American hop character, and the oak dries the beer out and adds aromatic qualities. 21°

Really doughy aroma, almost like sweet bread or marzipan cake; substantial citrus hop presence. Appearance was dark copper with tan head. Flavor was definitely doughy with a little gum; the finish was astringent with citrus hops. The palate was bubbly, hot and lively, which I didn’t mind for this beer. Interesting stuff.

Draft. Poured clear dark copper color with an average fizzy off-white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex earthy hop aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy complex bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy smooth bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. A very good beer.

Sometimes it pays to take risks. While this does not completely succeed it has some hints of the potential within. As a result I would not call it a total failure. Instead it is more an experiment of how far the envelope can be pushed.

Aroma / Appearance - The opaque base is like the residue at the bottom of a melted candy bar wrapper. Powdered sugar, fresh piles of leaves and grass, and a generally sweet aspect combine to form a different experience than your usual imperial IPA.

Flavor / Palate - Bitter cotton candy sparks the nose. Cherry licorice, malt, and a heavy finish blend into a combination which is hard to describe accurately. A little bit of everything mixes on the tongue. Toning it down might actually result in a better overall product.

A dark amber DIPA with a thick creamy mocha head, In aroma, loads of herbaceous hops, over butterscotch malt, light berry notes, nice. In mouth, a nice smooth ale with nice grassy hops, grapefruit notes, lingering bitterness, quite nice. On tap at FoBAB 2011.

Tap. Sweet orange and grapefruit peel/pine aroma. Amber color with small head. Sweet perfumey orange and strong bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Nicely hoppy.
