Location: Draft at George & Dragon, 4/5/13

Aroma: The nose has some light notes of citrus and pine hops to go along with bready malts
Appearance: This one pours a hazy orange color with a lasting, fluffy off-white head
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet, malty, with some spice notes, and mild hop bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, it is clean and soft, with a smooth, lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: This one was pretty decent and pretty nicely balanced. It has a pretty good mouthfeel. There isn’t a heck of a lot to say about it beyond that.

500 ml bottle. L036/12. BB 9/2013. Bar Animal, Madrid, Spain. Clear golden colour with a small white head. The aroma is sweet caramel malt and mild hoppiness. Very sweet. The flavour is more dry with hops, some caramel sweetness, dry grainy malts. Very drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2013 Mitja pinta de barril a Homo Sibaris, també beguda d’ampolla (50cl) fa temps. Color taronja clar amb escuma blanca, no gaire abundant però persistent. Aroma afruitat amb notes de blat. Molt semblant en sabor, amb petit toc de llúpol afegit que aporta un final sec. Cos lleuger / mig, carbonatació important. Refrescant.

De botella y presencia pobre. Aroma afrutado y levaduras. De sabor es ligeramente ácida y con notas a fruta pasada. Falta cuerpo

05/12 A 0.5 l bottle @Animal, Madrid, shared with teddybeer. Thanks Tibor! It poured hazy golden body with medium sized head. Orange hop and floral malt aroma. Flavor was quite simple, slightly bitter, same so sweet, herbal and grapefruit hops rounded in a boring, simple sugary way. Thinner to medium in body with pleasant, biscuit and herbal bittersweet finish. Definitely not bad, even pleasant, BUT rather typical, common EPA, not "the best beer in the World" as producers market it and justify the title with nothing except extremely high price. -1 overall for such pretentious attitude.

Sample @ Animal. Shared with ’Heavy’. Thanks Tibor. Golden colour with a small white head, medium lasting. Aroma is malty, fruity and floral hops. Flavor is quite sweet, fruity and a light bittery final. Medium bodied and carbonation.

Straw-hued copper. Creamy cap of pasty, frothy foam exhibits stelar retention. Soft and elegant nose of plasticlike phenols, flowers, apricot, black pepper, orange zest and dusty, puttylike yeast. Underlying notes of earth, hay, breadcrust and biscuit from the malt, along with some black tea. Noticeable alcohol. Soft, natural carbonation. Initially airy and briskly phenolic with a quick onset of leafy hop bitterness. Poignant hop spice tickles the palate as it merges with the earthier malt notions. Delightfully luscious hop and malt combo offers up supple apricot jam atop dry, vaguely toasty malt. Distant gummy candy slickness lends weight which consequently affects some of the brightness, as does a hint of cardboard, though a dusty yeast signature counters with captivatingly rustic charm. Ongoing peppery hop sparkle also helps with the perceived dryness. Plastic continually looms, eventually imparting some astringency along the way. Finishes dry but satiating in its succulence with vibrant notes of apricot jam and a finely detailed tandem of leafy and spicy hops. A flawlessly balanced pale ale in the British mold, with clean malt, clean hops, and a plenitude of pleasant fruity esters all held together by such a beautiful yeast. My first experience with this was blind, and immediately I was enamored as I mistook it for a Belgian ale. This could easily pass as a biere de garde or abbey single, in such a tasting. Having this as an everyday drinker would be ideal. Truly world-class.

Bottle. Head is initially large, creamy, off-white, fully lasting. Body is hazy medium amber, unfiltered. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cookie, caramel, toasted grain), moderately hoppy (flowers, apricot, peach), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of gum, pepper, plum, dried pineapple. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, soft/lively carbonation. If you like brews like Thiriez Extra or Taras Boulba (the nose reminds me of the latter quite a bit), you’re in for a real treat. Beautiful balance (could drink liters of this...succulent juicy malt with just enough bitterness to beg sip after sip), very clean, very enticing nose, delightful texture, lovely appearance...there isn’t anything it does wrong and it does an awful lot right...a 4+ level beer without question. I wish it wasn’t so pricey but at least it’s world class quality...I will gladly give brewers of this caliber my dough, just not the mediocre-and-worse brewers who simply jack up prices because they can get away with it.
