Brown, bubbly with a tinted head, quite lasating. The beer has a strong ale charachter, but also has a distinct taste of swedish xmas must together with some sour yeasty tones. Interesting. Goes very well with a heavy meal, or just to be enjoyed on its own.

Amber with a nice offwhite head. Aroma from spices, ginger and some sugar. Flavor brings sourish fruits, some spices and some bitterness. Thanks to larsniclas for the bottle.

Bottled. Dark amber, thick brownish head. Sweet, almost sugary, aroma with vegetables present. Rather metallic. Sweet flavour with chocolate and vegetables here too. More like a weak schwarzbier than an ale.

Big 150 cl bottle, looks great! Dark brown colour with an off-white head. Weak fruity aroma. Flavour is yeasty, fruity and a bit sour. A bit light for a christmas beer IMO.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2003 Re-rate bottled. My first sighting of any bottled beer from this brewery in many years. The old brewmaster who created their beers are now working for Nils Oscar, I believe, and it seems that his presence is dearly missed. It purs dark ruby, but rich chocoalate int it"s nose has dwindled to only a hint, covered in generous amounts of vinegar. It is still reasonably malted, but it"s roastiness has been replaced by a sour tone, and the bitterness in the finish by winegum flavour. I can"t even sense the hops anymore. Still it has some sort of a charm.
Old rating from around 1998: Dark brown. Chocoaltey nose. Above medium body, slightly roasty, rather bitter finish. A tasty, well balanced seasonal ale. I wish it was easier to find 7/3/6/4/14.

Bottle labelled as Kungälvs Julöl. Dark, red with light beige head. Dark bread and some raisins. Slightly stale aroma and low on hops. Not the best beer I had sorry to say, but not that bad either.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2007 (Draught) Pours deep, dark red. Metal, malt, light roasted aroma with notes of spices and juniper. Small notes of berries/cherries. Light watery, malty flavour with metal and a sour touch. Notes of chocolate and butter in the finish with some salt. Sourness and salt lingers. Small to medium body.
