Rating from 2005. Erdig-malzig, nicht zu viel Röstmalz, schön mild-weich. Toller Malzkörper. Im Nachgeschmack angenehm passend-bitter werdend. Toll! --> 13

Malz und Karamellnote kommen leicht durch, trotzdem herb. Kaum Körper. Mittlerer Abgang

Purchased in Carrefour, Pudong in a 50cl bottle as 'Frankenwälder Bärentruuk' with an ABV of 5.1%. Swingtop-type closure. Presumably, the original name and label was not German enough, so they changed it. Similar colour to Coke, but very slightly more pink. White head which disappeared instantly, leaving the beer looking extremely flat. Slight aroma of raisins and brown bread. The taste is of mild roasted flavours and is very sweet with little balancing bitterness. Rather thin and watery with little complexity and poor balance. Not a good Dunkeler.

Sweet aroma and taste with little bitterness. Dark red with no head retention. Not a bad beer but not a good example of the style.

Bottle. Clear dark reddish-brown with just a little white foam, Faint aroma of raisins that makes you think of an interesting Dunkel. But then this tastes pretty much of nothing, with some sour notes and a wee bit of hoppy bitterness. Watery body with no power whatsoever. Boo!

Mit McTapps geteilt und gemeckert. Seltsam dumpf mit einer leicht rauchigen Note. Hat vom Geruch her kaum etwas an sich, dafür erinnert es im Geschmack an alten, sumpfigen Schuh.

Deep dark but clear brown-red colour with low head and medium body. Nose of malt. Taste of Prospan childrens cough syrup, ivy, rich malt, green nuts and roast. Hints of brown bread and dark grains. Hard to drink, it is way under average.

Swing top bottle. Pretty standard dunkel with a generic brown colour and light head; steady toasted aroma; hints of cherry jam and lightly tinny finish. Not a whole lot going on

Test vom 19.5.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,7,5,5,10,6 - 6,45

My partner picked this up for me in Beijing, China of all places. Managed to smuggle it back to Oz with me so I could lay back and enjoy it in the cold of winter here.
At just on cool and into a handled straightwall. Fiery, ruddy chestnut and shimmering with very fine and sparse carbonation. Head forms to settle a good half inch out the brim; a rocky and tight off-white foam that is lasting with ample lace. Strange, complex and rustic aroma of damp weeds, swamp moss, driftwood, rusted car bodies, kelp and chaff with a hint of sweet cola beer and bran cakes. Sweetish, nutty praline start. Good meaty body dominated by roasted nut and toasted malt flavours with inklings of burnt toast, carob and unabashed tannins late. Mild spice and wood in the swallow also. Little to no hops; no bitterness. A clean, well balanced Dunkel. Nothing too exciting here but it has session material written all over it. (50cL, BB 01/09/13, off-license, Beijing, China)
