On tap. Pours with a black body and a tan head that lasts for a bit. Aromas of roast, vanilla, light esters, coffee and dusty cocoa nibs. Flavors are sweet, chocolate, licorice and a lot of dark fruit. Creamy and a bit warming. Medium bubbles, full bodied. Lingering dark fruit esters. Good.

This is a big beer with a lot of malty notes. A bit on the sweet side, but not bad.

Cocoa aroma. Black in color with tan head. Cocoa-chocolatey, not my favorite chocolate tones.

On tap at the Canyon Club: Such a surprise to find this beer on tap at such a random tiny bar especially since it’s in San Diego. Anyways, poured a dark black liquid and was topped with a thin half inch of foamed head. It was too hard for me to pick up on the aroma since this place has a kitchen and people smoke cigarettes in the door way so I will have to guess with a 7. The flavor is dominated with dark roasted malts that give off a syrupy taste in conjunction with a warm presence of alcohol. I only drank 2 pints of this before I began waving the white flag. Good stuff and this definitely needs to go into bottle production.

Draught at Brewfest Encinitas. Very dark brown with almost no head. Sweet fruity chocolate aroma. Sweet and fruity flavor with light hops and not a lot of darker malt flavor. Full bodied and lower in carbonation. Just a little bland and sweet on the whole with out a lot going on. Not my kind of stout.

On tap @ Goat Hill Tavern.
Black brew with a decent amount of tan head. Lots of roasted malt aroma with some chocolate and coffee. Flavor is sweeter than I would have liked with more dark chocolate and roasted malt.

Tap at Ritual Tavern, San Diego. Rich and chocolatey with hi carbonation, sort of like an Italian chocolate soda. Better fit for pairing with dessert than drinking alone.

Draft. A dark nut brown beer with a lazing orangey head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and alcohol, leading to a dry, roasted, and bitter finish.
