Not sure if this is the exact same beer I had at the CM Bockfest. There it was called "billy goat bock." and was made by the bar owner at the BOP of Aksarben. I’m guessing this is the same beer here, he just renamed it. I really don’t think I need to add another beer from Aksarben at this point! From a hand-pumped keg. Brown/amber pour w/ tannish head leaving some lace. The beer had to be decanted into pitchers and poured because of the huge heads that poured off the keg. Muted nose w/ slight esters and not much else. Sweet finish, decent body. I like this better than the Huber Bock, but I’m not sure that there is anything particularily "bock" about this beer! I do detect a nice undercurrent of hoppiness...not much malt. Its more like a dark pale ale without enough bittering hops than a bock. I don’t really care about styles, so that doesn’t bother me. Not a lot of character or presence, but drinkable in large doses.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured brown with very little head. I found nothing of distinction in the aroma. Flavor was gummibear and cardboard. Very flat and unsavory.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours reddish dark brown with a medium off-white head. has a caramel and molasses aroma, but not much of one. Flavor is malty and roasted with a tingling palate. Finishes with a mild bitter bite and a medium roastedness. Oddly enough, it has a vegetable flavor. Medium palate. This was likely the template for the Billy Goat Bock served at the Huber House during bockfest, but lacks some of the sweetness of Billy Goat.

From the bottle at the brewery 3/5/06: Dark, dark orange and almost opaque (hazy). Same big head as the rest. Little aroma. Semi-sweet character but not much flavor. It’s OK, but nothing special.
