Pigfoot (2224), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 25, 2005 Solidly dark, deep mahogany color, with ruby edges, virtually headless, though.
Aroma: dark fruit, raisin and plum, fig.
Taste: smooth, supple, delicious. Danced merrily on the tongue, maintains a medium-to-full body, flavor never quits...tasty, but simple. That’s okay once in a while, I guess...the palate doesn’t need a challenge all the time. Velvety smooth...definitely worth a try.
HughConway (259), USA Aug 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours mahogany with slight white head. Taste is thick bodied, slightly sweet. Aftertaste is nice and sweet. Fine beer. thedm (3405), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 25, 2008 This bottled brew from Indianapolis, IN poured a small sized head of foam with a frothy tan colored top that left behind a transparent typically carbonated brown colored like cocoa cola body and a fair lacing. The aroma contained sweet malt brown malt and floral hop notes. The mouth feel was mildly hopped. The flavor contained notes of sweet brown malts and mild hops. IrishBoy (2111), Bakersfield, California, USA Jun 10, 2008 .5L bottle from Hollingshead Deli; Nose of caramel, brown sugar, grain, and figs; clear copper-brown with a medium, big bubbled beige head; flavor of fig newtons, brown sugar, and a molasses note; finish slightly sweet with a very minor alcohol warmth. BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Jun 5, 2008 An underapreciated gem of a doppelbock. Sweet caramel coffee notes on the nose, with a hint of perfumy alcohol. The flavor has some nice sugary sweet complexities without being cloying. Brown sugar and cinnamon, with loads of dried dark fruits, raisins and dates, perhaps even a plum note. Easy to drink, well balanced. EithCubes (1797), Indiana, USA May 23, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of spicy yeast, red berry, light brown sugar, caramel, and lots of smooth malt. Slightly musty / cellary notes, as well. Dark ruby brown body with a beige head. Smooth malty body, dry with wonderful spicy yeasty accents, light chocolate, brown sugar, and restrained fruit with a medium/strong musty hop presence (somewhat unique for style - really adds a lot to the overall product). Earthy molasses and light bitterness and a hint of smoke. Minor drawback in the slight alcohol fume off-note that stings toward the finish, but only after some volume. Smooth and creamy medium body, and the velvety malt complexity is really what makes this. Straightforward, upper-crust Doppelbock. Satisfying!
