COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Barn Owl Imperial Brown is brewed in the style of southern English brown ale, only much stronger (7.9% ABV). A myriad of specialty malts impart a smooth, layered flavor with notes of chocolate, caramel, and biscuit shining through. The perfect beer to celebrate the beginning of spring.

Bottle @ The BeerMongers... Poured dark brown with a thin head. This was quite ashy. No where near smoke but tasted like burnt earth and dirt. Low bitterness, roasty malts. Easy drinking. Cocoa, coffee, mocha, and a burnt sweetness.

Bottle. Mahogny dark ruby in color, off-white head. Roasted malty notes, bit of chocolatey nuttyness too in aroma. Quite soft mouthfeel. Bitter cocoa, some malty sweet notes and nuttyness in taste. Chocolateycoffee vibes in the end.

66cl Bottle, thanks Marc! Brown colour, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some coffee, chocolate, Haagse Hopjes. Flavour is nutty, some tobacco, coffee, Haagse Hopjes in the back, nice hoppy bitter finish with some nuttiness. Medium bodied. Nice.

Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, caramel, chocolate, earthy notes, fruits, orange, hops. Flavour is moderate sweet with a long bitter finish. Very tasty hoppy Brown Ale, enjoyed this one a lot.

Chocoladebruine kleur met een goede cremekleur kraag. Ruikt fruitig, hop, chocolade, kruiden. Smaakt enerzijds fruitig, hop, anderzijds koffie, chocolade. Lekkere bittere afdronk.

Bottle shared with Erwin Van Moll @ Brewpub Van Moll. Slightly unclear dark red color, full sized white to off-white head. Aroma is malts, lightly hops, lightly floral. Taste malts, lightly dark malts, hops, moderately bitter, a hint of caramel and biscuit. Pretty bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation. Not really a brown ale I think, I’d say it’s a hoppy dark amber but whatever. Nice beer.

Keg at the brewpub, PDX, 11/11/14. Clear dark chestnut brown with a beige covering. Nose is earthy hop, toffee, faint vegetal notes, candied fruit peel. Taste comprises caramel, nutty tones, dark malts, light candied fruit notes, brown sugars. Medium body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with some earthy hop bitterness. Ok number but really fails to deliver much in the way of flavour for a 7.9% beer.

Exactly what a Brown Ale should taste like, with the addition of high alcohol Imperial content, and nitro delivery.

Poured from a 22oz. Color is beautiful caramel, brown sugar color. Taste is sweet, hoppy, and almost spicy. This is very well balanced and easy to drink. Great drinking beer for an imperial brown!

22 oz bottle. Aroma is nutty, piney, roasty, and malty, with hints of toffee, hazelnuts, and chocolate. Mouthfeel is crisp and sweet in the beginning, and it finishes wonderfully sweet, bitter, and slightly astringent. Amazing malt and hop balance. Damn fine beer!

Bomber from fred meyers’. Nice irregular off-white head with dark brown opaque characteristics. Alcoholic warmth and maltiness in the aroma, taste matches. Very pleasant taste profile, strong hop bitterness at the end with good balance. Imperial brown is one of my new favorite styles. Actually a very medium body, not too heavy, but taste is strong.
