Smooth, rich and creamy. Rye malt blends with roast and chocolate malts to create a new and delicious stout profile, balanced with soft and velvety hops. This northwest original is poured using the traditional nitrogen dispensing method, so it may take an extra minute to arrive, but the wait is worth it. The Black Bear won the Gold Medal at the 2003 GABF in the foreign-style stout category. Have a pint of Stout with the Seven-Barrel Burger or the Beer Battered Onion Rings.

Bottle, 0.65l, shared with Leo. Pours murky deep brown with large soapy brown head and good lacing. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, licorice and blackcurrant. Taste starts moderate sweet grainy, follows by roasted malts and mild dried fruits, while finish is moderate bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. Bearable beer...

650 ml. bottle. Bottled 12/04/14. Slow gusher resulting in two glasses full of foam. Huge collapsing mocha bubbles revealing a very dark brown beer. Nose is thin grainy cacao powder, ashy chocolate malts, cheap cacao butter & med. lactic / sour cherry note, strongly herbal coffee,… Taste is chocolate milk, thin ashy herbal chocolate milk, herbal coffee, soy pudding, chocolate, sourness is luckily absent in the taste, cheap pralines, faint black bread, cheap sweet vending machine coffee,… Lower carbonation, soy chocolate milk body,… Pleasant sweet vending machine coffee with lots of soy chocolate milk, cheap pralines / herbal & chicory are light but a touch too much for me. Very basic & simple, pleasant beer. Work make more sense at a lower price-point in half liter cans in my opinion. A bit unfortunate that it misbehaved a bit.

Not so much aroma, just a bit of sweet and sour cherries and far far away some coffee. Nice dark colour and big carbonation with a light brown head. Flavour start creamy, some red fruits and then lots of roasted coals and bread and coffee. Very dry. Aftertaste is a mixture of red sour fruits and bread. Interesting.

Pitch black, yellowish head.Smell is subtle, almost nonexistent - sweetish bitter lightly malty, hint of leather and coffee. Some fresh cheese. Taste is deliciously roasted with wood and coffee. Nice fizz, refreshing with a lightly sour cheese finish. Good balance. Touch of smoke.
