COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smooth, rich and creamy. Rye malt blends with roast and chocolate malts to create a new and delicious stout profile, balanced with soft and velvety hops. This northwest original is poured using the traditional nitrogen dispensing method, so it may take an extra minute to arrive, but the wait is worth it. The Black Bear won the Gold Medal at the 2003 GABF in the foreign-style stout category. Have a pint of Stout with the Seven-Barrel Burger or the Beer Battered Onion Rings.

Super black color, extra carbonated. Roasted aromas with coffee and chocolate hints. Very nice taste, coffee, chocolate, roasted malt. Hoppy aftertaste. Very nice beer but it would be better with less carbonation.

She pours a motor oil quality and leaves the same colored body, both have an enormous three finger head that seems like it just doesn’t want to die. Wow, what a nice show as the lacing is strewn in foamy bubbles. The aroma has a super huge amount of roasted coffee notes coming through in a slightly bitter way, backed up by a decent amount of roasted malts. The taste is mainly bitter and roasty, there’s an aspect about this beer that tells me it wants to own you as something dark and harsh pervades and pounds my mouth. There is a super dry roasty somewhat coffee-like aftertaste with a just a plain dry finish. On the palate, she sits about a medium on my mouth and tongue and wants to try to be gentle yet that same dark harshness comes back, carbonation is fairly smooth. Overall, for the most part, I think is just an ok foreign/extra stout, it has a fair amount of good aspects that try to showcase some good things about it, but still when I look at it as a whole, I just can’t seem to think to give it that next higher number. Maybe I just need to try it fresher.

Pours a dark black with a small tan head and moderate lace on the glass. Aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, sweet vanilla, medium fruity esters, and light coffee. Flavour is cocoa, creamy sweetness, roasted malt, mild bitterness, moderate fruity esters and a touch of coffee. Really like this one!

Tap at alameda brewpub Portland, OR. Nitroed. Good chocolate malt aroma. Pours black with a nice light brown head and good lacing. Rich, creamy chocolatey mouthfeel with the chocolate flavors lingering on the clean, smooth finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Another solid Alameda brew. The pour is a dark velvety black with a creamy off white head. Aromas of earth, vanilla and cocoa blend well with a well roasted malt. Nice and sweet mid palate with a hint of dark fruits and nuts with a dash of cocoa. The roast although heavy doesn’t carry a strong bitterness on the finish. Creamy and velvety with a lingerance of dark malts.

Black colour with a white head, good lasting and medium lacework. Aroma has notes of toasted and roasted malts, licorice notes, coffee and black chocolate. Flavor is roasty, very similar as aroma with some sweet notes at the beginning with a final light bittery, some ashes notes with a high presence of coffee. Light bittery final with a good presence of roasted malts.

650ml brown bottle. 7% abv on the label. Black pour, small brown cap with a bit of lace. Aromas of cocoa, roasted malt, trace of alcohol. Taste has a bit of nut, roasted malt, dark chocolate. Strong roast and cocoa finish with a good dose of late hop bitterness, slight alcohol note and a bit of coffee creeping in. Soft mouthfeel, a bit lighter than expected. Very good.
