Smooth, rich and creamy. Rye malt blends with roast and chocolate malts to create a new and delicious stout profile, balanced with soft and velvety hops. This northwest original is poured using the traditional nitrogen dispensing method, so it may take an extra minute to arrive, but the wait is worth it. The Black Bear won the Gold Medal at the 2003 GABF in the foreign-style stout category. Have a pint of Stout with the Seven-Barrel Burger or the Beer Battered Onion Rings.

Dark brown/black with beige creamy head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts. In taste medium sweet, lightly roasted, dark chocolate. Meidum to high body, medium bitterness, low carbonation. Classic Foreign Extra Stout, nice :)

650 ml. bottle. Bottled 12/04/14. Slow gusher resulting in two glasses full of foam. Huge collapsing mocha bubbles revealing a very dark brown beer. Nose is thin grainy cacao powder, ashy chocolate malts, cheap cacao butter & med. lactic / sour cherry note, strongly herbal coffee,… Taste is chocolate milk, thin ashy herbal chocolate milk, herbal coffee, soy pudding, chocolate, sourness is luckily absent in the taste, cheap pralines, faint black bread, cheap sweet vending machine coffee,… Lower carbonation, soy chocolate milk body,… Pleasant sweet vending machine coffee with lots of soy chocolate milk, cheap pralines / herbal & chicory are light but a touch too much for me. Very basic & simple, pleasant beer. Work make more sense at a lower price-point in half liter cans in my opinion. A bit unfortunate that it misbehaved a bit.

Not so much aroma, just a bit of sweet and sour cherries and far far away some coffee. Nice dark colour and big carbonation with a light brown head. Flavour start creamy, some red fruits and then lots of roasted coals and bread and coffee. Very dry. Aftertaste is a mixture of red sour fruits and bread. Interesting.

Pitch black, yellowish head.Smell is subtle, almost nonexistent - sweetish bitter lightly malty, hint of leather and coffee. Some fresh cheese. Taste is deliciously roasted with wood and coffee. Nice fizz, refreshing with a lightly sour cheese finish. Good balance. Touch of smoke.

Piana drobna, brązowa, trwała. Ładnie koronkuje na szkle. Kolor czarny. W aromacie nuty kojarzące się bardziej z porterem niż stoutem. Czekolada i śliwki. Całość pachnie dość wytrawnie. Lekko kwaskowato. Jest trochę alkoholu, przypomina likier. Lekki aromat dębowy, drewniany. W smaku lekko kwaskowate. Znów pojawia się wytrawna, deserowa czekolada. W miarę picia pojawiają się nuty dębowej beczki, specyficzna drewniana goryczka i taniny. Nie są ściągające. Całość dość pełna. Ale piwo jest wytrawne w smaku. Kwaskowość wyraźna. Alkohol dobrze zamaskowany, ale przyjemnie grzeje w przełyku. Bardzo dobre piwo chociaż mi bardziej przypomina portera niż stouta.

Bottle from de Molen Beershop, cant find a BB date, large sample. Dark brown color, big frothy brown head. Aroma of red fruit, blackcurrant, some roast, bit chocolate and vanilla, slight cookie, slight dark bread. Medium sweet and slight bitter in taste. Bit creamy mouthfeel. Finishes a bit dry, with some bitterness and a bit fruity sweetness. Quite fruity stout. Enjoyable.

Das Bier hat eine sehr dunkel orangebraune Farbe und eine schöne große hell bräunliche Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr schokoladig, bittere Kaffeebohnen, viel Röstmalz. Geschmack nach bitteren Kaffeebohnen, Röstmalz, Kakaobohnen, Vanille, leicht trocken, gut!

Aroma: milk chocolate, dark malts. Appearance: black color, big beige head (overcarbonated). Taste: low herbal bitterness, ashy, belgian pralines, coffee, bitter chocolate, semi-sweet, roasted malts. Palate: full body and medium carbonation, roasted finish. Overall: Good FES, really chocolate, drinkable, recommended.
