COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smooth, rich and creamy. Rye malt blends with roast and chocolate malts to create a new and delicious stout profile, balanced with soft and velvety hops. This northwest original is poured using the traditional nitrogen dispensing method, so it may take an extra minute to arrive, but the wait is worth it. The Black Bear won the Gold Medal at the 2003 GABF in the foreign-style stout category. Have a pint of Stout with the Seven-Barrel Burger or the Beer Battered Onion Rings.

One of those stouts that I like to fill my entire mouth with and let it sit for several seconds. Really like the lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue, but very unlike Export Guinness.

Aroma: milk chocolate, dark malts. Appearance: black color, big beige head (overcarbonated). Taste: low herbal bitterness, ashy, belgian pralines, coffee, bitter chocolate, semi-sweet, roasted malts. Palate: full body and medium carbonation, roasted finish. Overall: Good FES, really chocolate, drinkable, recommended.

from a 650ml bottle and at 7%. Pours a deep black body with a dark beige head that did not stay long. Aroma of roasted coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Taste of light creamy chocolate, a bit milky, roasted malts, with a long roasted taste in mouth. the finish is somewhat a bit too watery, light in the finish, lack of taste. It is a nice easy drinking stout, with nice flavors though, but still expensive for what it is. Nice stout, but not really a winner for me.

650ml bottle. Dark brown pour. This is very carbonated for the style, chcolate and rye notes.

Bottle 650cl. Pours a pretty black with. a very thick light brown head. Smell is nice, lightly lactic, lots of caramel, chocolate milk, roasty, quite fruity, some vanilla, light orange peel, cherries, some coffee, pretty neat. Taste is similar, some lactic sourness, milky, chocolate, very roasty, maybe dark fruit, more chocolate milk. Mouth feel is light to medium bodied with medium carbonation, pretty silky, Great Stout with a strong dark fruity character! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(Alameda Black Bear XX Stout) Bottle 650 ml at home, served into a shaker, ABV 7% Black coloured body, huge dark brown head, I had actually to wait till it had collapsed a bit to continue with pouring, took me a while. Very thick foam too, long lasting. Medium lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, fruits, chocolate, light vanilla, some roasted malts. Very nice taste, again hoppy and fruity touches that complement the present chicolate very well. Light citrus and orange cake. Medium body, soft carbonation. Very tasty beer.

A nice Foreign Stout. Doesn’t quite match to Guinness’s excellent Special Export. The rhye perhaps makes this a bit too rough to the palate and gives the taste a slightly distasteful roughness. The aroma is very complex and varied with tart and dark dried fruits, toasted malts and peat. Taste is along the same lines. Palate is somewhat light, a bit rough with the rhye, but mostly nice and smooth. Good brew.

650 ml bottle. Cheers veliemboys. Pours a black colour with a small white head. Aroma of strong ashtray notes and maybe some chocolate. Flavour of harsh chocolate maltiness, ash, grassy bitterness and coffee. Light bodied and almost watery mouthfeel. Nice lingering bitter finish. Good.

65 cl bottle.
Pours jet black color with a small head. Lots of coffee and cocoa here, burnt malts, some chocolate and faint hops. Sweet flavor, caramel and syrup, dark malts and cocoa, maybe some coffee too. Nice robust coffee stout if you will.
