3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BlackDonald (1127) - Boise, USA - JUN 5, 2008
I thought this was a great example of the style. Not overly sweet or too dry, but great with the upscale pub food served at the brewpub. Some hints of roastiness in the nose, and a lingering scent of perfumy hops and licorice. Some nice bittersweet chocolate notes on the palate, a bit of burnt cocoa and caramel as well, really creamy mouthfeel, with some bitterness coming through in the finish. Enjoyable.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MadIndian (1715) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 3, 2012
This is a good stout.
I liked the roast, the chocolate, the dry / sweet flavors and aroma. I even detected some notes of floral.
However, the problem with this beer is, I felt like I drank it 1000x times before. There was nothing that made me say wow. With that said, it was still a good stout, although a little thin in the body.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 arminjewell (2434) - Parker, Colorado, USA - JAN 19, 2012
Pour out of bottle, thanks a bunch Steve! Pour is dark brown almost black with off white head almost tan head, aroma has notes of roast, coffee, some slight chocolate, hints of dark fruit and spice notes, slight fruity notes. Taste is an interesting mix of caramel, roast, coffee and chocolate, hints of fruity esters, finishes fairly dry. Not bad.

Bottle. Black color with fleeting tan head. Deep roast malt, semi-sweet chocolate, mild floral aromas. medium bodied with almost no co2. Dry chocolate, deep roast, pale malt, floral hop flavors--lack of carbonation hurts--not too bad though

Bottle shared with Steve and co. Thanks Steve! Black appearance with a dark brown head. Fairly rich chocolate malty, roasty, coffee aroma. Chocolate, Belgian yeasty, light caramel, mild earthy flavor. Not one that I enjoy but I tend to shy away from Foreign Stouts.

Bottle shared by Ashley. This beer was really over carbonated. Was a gusher as soon as we opened it. Pours dark brown with a bubbly long lasting tan head. Aroma is roast, chocolate, coffee and dark fruits. Flavor is roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and earth. Way to carbonated for me.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 phaleslu (3150) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 26, 2011
22 oz. bottle shared by Ashley- thanks, again! Gusher when it opened. Pours an opaque coffee brown with a big, foamy, big-bubbled, surprisingly long-lasting tan head. Aroma of black olives, coffee, roast, chocolate, plums, and dates. Flavor of coffee and roasted malts again, toasted chocolate, earth, and cola. Medium-bodied, with high carbonation and a fizzy, roasty mouthfeel that lingers. Goes down like soda. Something was off with the carbonation, but otherwise a solid foreign stout.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 alexsdad06 (2226) - Ohio, USA - OCT 15, 2011
22 oz. bottle shared by shigadeyo. Pours dark brown in color with a medium sized beige head. The nose is roasted malts and dark chocolate. This is strange, but it smells like it will be dry, almost dusty. The flavor has a nice roasted malt base with dark chocolate and a touch of char. Dry and in line with some of the nicer foreign stouts. I thought this was a solid offering that was definitely flying under the radar.
