3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
651mL thanks to briandot. Pours deep brown to black. Medium, dense mocha foam. Webby to soapy lacing. Nose is salty, soy, lemon, herbal, huge green olive and pimento. Taste is light bodied, very salty, soy, Green olive. Palate is thin, but drinkable, near sessionable. The major olive here isn’t my style but I can see how it won medals for foreign stout.

On the watery medium bodied over carbonated side, for the rest very coffee roasty and nice. Just not a proper stout in my opinion

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle.Very dark brown - almost black, large and mostly lasting dark brown head. Moderate, malty and lightly sweetish aroma, roasted malt and light coffee, faint sourness and light licorice. Body is medium, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, some roasted malt and light coffee, faint chocolate and light - some hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, some roasted malt - faint burnt malt, light coffee and salty licorice, faint sourness and some hoppyness. OK foreign stout - could use more body. Aroma and finish have faint sourish notes which does not go along with roastiness.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Award-winning foreign stout (is there a beer style the American craft brewers do not master?) from Oregon. Light brownish beige, medium, creamy head over a totally black beer. Strong, complex and perfumey aroma of coffee liqueur, mocha ice cream, plum brandy, pine resin, maple syrup, spiced wine, shoe polish but in an undisturbing way (if you get my drift...), bitter chocolate, freshly grated ginger, baked banana, orange peel, liquorice, vanilla, cinnamon, hazelnut oil, pipe tobacco, peppermint, peated whisky, leather... Very aromatic and very inviting, and even increasing in complexity as the bottle progresses. Rounded, ’fluffy’, oily mouthfeel, taste begins with a concentrated candied fruits sweetishness, subtle but pointy, with the perfect amount of carbonation for this style; a very faint hint of blue cheese-like saltiness pops up and disappears again, adding complexity; thick and layered maltiness follows, nutty, chocolatey, caramelly, all blended in a very appealing, condense way; coffee-like roasted bitterness looms in the distance already from the beginning and evolves to full force in the finish, dry and sticking to the entire mouth cavity but nevertheless remaining elegant; some peppery hops give further bitterness in the end, assisted by a warming, bourbon- or liqueur-like alcohol presence which stays perfectly in place, where it should be. Boozy but in a very subtle kind of way, fully roasted but again subtly so, tempting bouquet: I don’t think I’ve had many foreign stouts except for some classics in the style, but I have a strong suspicion this is the best example I’ve tasted so far.

Rev. There’s no heat in this place. Deep roast, lactose, notable bitterness, minerally, bitter choco, burnt stuff, light coffee, vaguest of fruit. Very tasty and highly satisfying.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rated on 5-15-2013 (Bottle) The appearance is a small light brown head that mostly diminishes, opaque dark brown body and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is roasted coffee, chocolate and malt. The flavor is roasted coffee, chocolate, malt, and a burnt taste. The mouthfeel is smooth and dry. This beer is light bodied. Overall, this beer is quaffable with a thin texture. It is has a lingering roasted, burnt aftertaste. It is a beer worth trying.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 8, 2015 On tap at the brewpub - Pours dark brown with a tan head. The aroma has creamy chocolate, smooth roast, dark caramel and lots of cream. It has a medium smooth body with super soft carbonation. It starts with the aroma traits, but drier and has cocoa and light char in there. The finish gets a touch watery. Pretty good stout.

This is an overall good beer. Fairly light for an imperial stout but good. Definitely swish this beer in the glass to open up the flavor

Bomber from Roth’s. 7%. Black in color on the pour. Nose is roasty with quite a strong whiff of burnt coffee. Dry roasty flavor. Lots off coffee. A hint of milk sugar. Pretty good stout. Doesn’t really taste like most foreign stouts I’ve had. Good stout though.

Bottle. Black in color with a nice creamy tan head. Milk chocolate and roasted notes in aroma. Bitterness and bit of muted vanilla too. Dark chocolate mixed with bit of anise and coffee in taste. Soft and velvety sweet mouthfeel. Espresso in the end.
