COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smooth, rich and creamy. Rye malt blends with roast and chocolate malts to create a new and delicious stout profile, balanced with soft and velvety hops. This northwest original is poured using the traditional nitrogen dispensing method, so it may take an extra minute to arrive, but the wait is worth it. The Black Bear won the Gold Medal at the 2003 GABF in the foreign-style stout category. Have a pint of Stout with the Seven-Barrel Burger or the Beer Battered Onion Rings.

Dark brown, almost black pour with fluffy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, lactose and faint hops. Taste of roasted malts, rye malt, coffee, chocolate, faint caramel, slight lactose and very faint hops. Medium bodied, lower carbonation and a faint chocolatey bitter coffee finish. Very good enjoyable beer!

Bottle shared by Menno, thanks! Coffee and licorice in the aroma. Quite some roasted malts. Creamy flavor and quite dry. Thick body.

Nitro keg at the taproom, 11/11/14. Light black with a decent tan covering. Nose is light roast, chocolate, dark toffee notes, leather. Taste comprises roast malt, dark fruit rinds, leather, earthy, bitter chocolate. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok stout.

On tap at the brewpub. Aroma: malty and roasty, with hints of chocolate. Taste/Palate: creamy and sweet; finishes slightly astringent. For a non-Imperial stout, this beer is absolutely perfect.

Poured from Nitro at the Brew pub. Flavor is sweet and balanced. I did find it a bit watery which was very distracting. Did not have much roasty flavor to it but very drinkable.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus and Thompson. Opaque black color, medium to full sized light brown head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts, smoky, some liquorice. Taste malts, again some smoke, bitter, slightly earthy. Decent body and carbonation. Not bad but I expected better.

Bottle @ benzai. Black colour with a small light brown head. Smells cocoa, chocolate, roasty. Tastes chocolate, roasty, smoked salmon, weird. Medium body, soft carbo. Weird.

Bomber at home. Beautiful pour. Black beer with a solid little persistent head and great lacing. Aroma has light coffee, nuts, dark chocolate, good. Taste is very good as well, fairly complex with a bevy of familiar chocolate and coffee flavors to taste in addition to the obvious roasted malt notes. I think the hops make the palate too harsh actually, and it’s a bit too crisp in my opinion -- I’d love to taste it on nitro.

this was served ala nitro at the portland airport, and reminded me a lot of rasputin sereved the same way. maybe a touch below in overall flavor and complexity, but it was big on flavor, big on chocolate, and big on hops. huge aroma. roasted coffee in there too. very good stout. Ironically not as awesome CO2 or Nitro at Alamada. Hmmm..."
