Dark brown with ruby highlights, foamy tan ring that is elsuive and disappears. Big berry nose that evolves into some roasted coffee and cocoa. Almost smoky in the nose and on the palate while drinking with lots of roasted chocolate and just a hint of jumiper. Finish lingers dancing uniquely on the palate. This is great stuff.

Deep brown in color with a smokey sweetness in the aroma. The first sip starts with a chocolate coffee and finishes with a smooth bitterness that does not over power you. I liked the stout better, but this is certainly worth having a pint or two!

(Draft: Alameda Brewing Co. in Portland, OR) The flavor and nose of this porter is smoky, chocolaty, roasty, somewhat sweet, and moderately bitter, certainly one of the best beers on tap at this brewpub. While not exceeding the craft industry standard, it’s capable enough. Deep, dark brown, not quite opaque at the edges. The medium body does seem a bit watery. Very dark brown in color, slightly translucent at the edges, and topped by a long-lasting light tan head that leaves only a few traces of lace on the glass. Decent, and though not an exceptional porter, given the mediocrity of what I’ve had here so far, I’ll definitely take it.

I’ll give a non Deja Vu comment! Nice dark brown in color. Aromatic hints of a touch of roast and some chocolate. Body is thin to medium, could be a little more viscous. Flavors are direct and to the point. Some med to large caramal malts, some chocolate, some roast and some hops to balance. This is a text book Porter, but nothing more. OH!! The Juniper!! Yes, it can be tasted! You’ll find a slight juniper berry spiciness and ginny flavor at the very end of the finish, just before you exhale.. It’s there!

On tap at the pub. Dark beer with a thin brown head. Roasted grains in the nose. Lots of roast coffee beans, molasses and brown sugar sweetness. Fairly dry finish. Nice porter, but I didn’t taste the juniper either.

I thought that this was a pretty nice porter. If there were supposed to be junipers in the flavor, I didn’t notice t hem, though.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Sham (1846) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 5, 2004
Cask: Very dark brown pour, opaque. Tons of head comprised of big bubbles and awesome lacing. Coffee, chocolate, roasted malts blend into a great mocha aroma. Very nice. Mocha flavors, with some chocolate, fruit and hops. Hints of wood, perhaps oak. Some maple as well. Very creamy body and palate. Nice bitter finish of hops. This simply rocked. This was a damn fine porter.

(Numbers are for the cask version)
Black color with light head & lacing. The aroma is very roasted, almost smoky with some of the juniper showing through. Tastes very good, lots of oak & smoke here with a touch of coffee & chocolate in the finish. Well crafted & tasty. Interesting flavors, unique.
CASK:head is more defined and resistant. Oak & maple jump out more in the aroma. Absolutely delicious on cask. I WANT MORE!!!
