COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With an appealing amber color, this brew has a perfect balance of caramel malt and spicy hop flavors. The Munich malt in this recipe lends a rich mouth feel, while generous additions of Pacific-Northwest hops complete the balance. Try a pint of Pale with the Salmon Gyros, Falafel or Alameda Dip.

Dark extra gold color. Nice tan head. Spicy hopy nose. Attack has a bit too much malt. Clean crisp finish.

22 oz bomber. Pours amber with a two finger thick head. Amber in color. Aroma and flavor are similiar, caramel malts, floral notes, and citrus. Reminds me more of an amber than APA, as the malt mostly dominates the flavor. Dry finish. Overall, not a bad beer, just a bit plain. Very easy to drink.

Good head on it, and a nice sweet malty body with a decent hop profile. If not for the price a fine beer to waste a summer day with.

22oz Bottle. The pour was a foggy golden copper with a small (1 finger or less) off white creamy head that receded down to a thin film with a small collar and had good streaky lacing. The aroma was somewhat mild with a light grain malt, floral hops and an earthy yeast with notes of caramel and citrus (grapefruit). The taste was also mild with a lightly sweet malty taste and a hint of caramel at first, and then became lightly hoppy with a touch of citrus at the end. The flavor hung on for a good long while, with a slight increase in bitterness and a more pronounced citrus peel presence as time went on. Mouthfeel was light in body with a dry, watery texture and a medium carbonation. Overall this was a light and decent tasting Pale Ale, although the increase in the citrus peel bitterness sort of changed the overall flavor of this brew...

Reviewed 3/7/13. Bottle says 5%. 22 oz bottle into a nonic pint glass. A: Pours a dark copper color. The head is a dinky looking half finger white shade. It doesnít fade away to nothing in record time, but it certainly doesnít look impressive. A minor amount of lacing is left on the glass. One really has to pour aggressively to give any sort of decent head. S: Hm. This really smells like a English-style pale ale. Itís heavy on caramel, toffee, brown sugar, marzipan, and a touch of earthy hops. A combination of nuttiness and even chocolate appears after it warms up sufficiently. This is definitely miscategorized - but as a bitter, it works well. T: By gawd, smakawhat wasnít kidding when he said this was a bit chocolaty. Earthy, piny hops are the first flavors I note; after that, the malts take over. They have a very caramel-esque, vaguely sweet tone to them - and yes, thereís even some notes of chocolate, nuts, apples, and vanilla. What the hell is this? An ESB? Maybe a hoppy brown ale? Or a defanged Arrogant Bastard clone? I donít know at all. Iíll give it some credit - it drinks like itís bigger than 5%. But at the same token...it drinks like itís bigger than 5%. M: Both the nutty, chocolaty, and hoppy characteristics all conspire to give this a dry finish. Itís a rough kind of dry, though. It suffers from the typical pratfall of many beers with a prevalent crystal malt backbone - itís too coarse near the finish. The aforementioned coarseness doesnít fit the lingering syrupy buildup on the palate, either. I probably would have enjoyed this more if the mouthfeel didnít get in the way of the flavor profile. O: Not sure how itís called an APA here, this is very much English-style. Decent, just donít expect anything close to SNPA. Do expect to find it wearing Union Jack knickers should you ever decide to pull its pants down, though.

On tap at Riverís Reach in New Westminster. Color is a medium amber-orange. A big fill on a 20 oz glass, so no nose to speak of. Decently hoppy, with a bit of malt noticeable, but Iím not in love with this beer, as it has a very long and lingering sour-bitter aftertaste. Meh.
