COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With an appealing amber color, this brew has a perfect balance of caramel malt and spicy hop flavors. The Munich malt in this recipe lends a rich mouth feel, while generous additions of Pacific-Northwest hops complete the balance. Try a pint of Pale with the Salmon Gyros, Falafel or Alameda Dip.

(Draft: Alameda Brewing Co. in Portland, OR) The blandness continues at this brewpub. The aroma is gently hoppy, and lightly sweet and caramely, but reasonably acceptable. However, the flavor is once again too generically "beer". Sweet, lightly malty, somewhat bitter, it just sits tiringly on the palate. Golden in color, slightly hazy, small off-white head fades away to nothing. Still hoping for better from this brewpub.

Can from Cork & Cask. Murky red/brown with tiny yeast flecks and an off-white head. Faint lacing. Aroma of toffee apple, wood, blood orange and fig. Flavour of pine, orange and caramel. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Rich and lightly hopped.

I thought that this was a pretty subdued American Pale Ale. Not bad, but nothing that would grab you.

Can from Haggen. Deep amber in color. Quite hazy. Dry bready nose. Some spicy hops in the nose. Biscuit up front with a spicy grapefruit hop character. Somewhat dry and a little earthy. Nice balance of hops and maltiness. Pretty quaffable pale ale.

Aroma of biscuity malt, some caramel, earthy hops. Flavour is moderate sweet with a moderate bitter finish. Not much in the way of fruits, more of an earthy malty aroma. Carbonation is rather high. I’d say this is average at best, I like my APA a lot more fruity. Taking into account that I had an old bottle (well over a year old), I wouldn’t mind trying a fresher specimen one day.

Poured at a good temperature with a nice, foamy, frothy, off-white head that settled after a bit and some lace. Color is a slightly hazy, dark amber. Aroma is very mild, slightly malt and hop. Flavor’s like nose, carbonic tang up front, followed immediately by bitter/sweet, a hint roast. Body and carbonation good. Finish is like flavor, on the short side, and forgettable.

On tap at the brewery. Lighter amber in color with a small white head. Light citrus hops in the nose with a soft caramel malt base. Decent and balanced, but the hops weren’t floral enough to really stand out with some of the other pales available in the market.

Gerbeer (2806) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 27, 2012
650 ml bottle from Central City. Pours a dark orange/amber with very little head. Aroma of light citrus hops and a hint of malt. Although not strong, hops are predominant in the flavor. Acidic and astringent. A bit of toffee flavor well after the finish.
