4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Hanuta06 (142) - Washington, USA - MAR 1, 2013
Serving: from bottle--purchased at Total Wine & More.
Aroma: moderately sweet, grainy aroma--like pumpernickel bread.
Appearance: very small, rocky, light-brown, initial head with fully diminishing longevity and good lacing. Dark-brown/black body.
Taste: moderately sweet initial taste and lightly bitter finish with lightly acidic, roasted malt aftertaste. Long duration.
Palate: medium-bodied with slightly dry texture and soft carbonation.
Overall: very good. The sweet initial flavor offset the lightly bitter finish very well.

Decent hops for a bitter flavour. Mouth feel goes from dry to wet. Head fully diminishes after a dark amber pour. Enjoyed on tap at a local pub in Chilliwack, BC called "District".

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a nice malty molasses with some brown sugar and caramel. Flavor is a nice roasted malt with a nice roasted nut. I also get more brown sugar and maybe a little bit of coffee. Finish has some earthy qualities. A decent beer a bit on the heavy side.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - JAN 1, 2013
Bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver Brown color, apparently lowly carbonated, with small creamy head. Aroma of dark malts, dry caramel, dusty, earthy, light puke. Flavor of dark caramel; the mouthfeel is quite round; then some more evident roastiness appears, and blends into a strong bitterness; very light residual sweetness; there is also a dusty impression. More an American interpretation of Scotch Ales than an Old Ale.

Dark brown pour. Aroma of roasted malts, nutmeg, cinnamon. Medium bodied. Bit of spice in the flavour which compliments the coffee and dark chocolate flavours. Nice.

On tap at Pumphouse Pub in Richmond. Dark reddish brown. A bartender’s maxi-pour, so no head to speak of. There’s some interesting depth here, and I don’t pretend to any knowledge of "old ale" as a style, but it’s surely a nice winter ale. Lots of malt and some caramel I think. A bit of hops well in the background. Nice.

Winter seasonal olde ale with a strong roasty body with some mild hops to balance it out, sweeter yeast notes.
