Ungstrup (10853), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 16, 2008 Draft. A very dark amber beer with a thin cream colored head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as lighter notes of alcohol. The flavor is very sweet with notes of over ripe fruit, leading to a dry woody finish. A quite nice old ale. omhper (10141), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 17, 2006 Cask at Rose & Raindrop, Portland. Very dark brown, creamy head. Citric berryish nose with plenty of corn syrup. Sweet and full bodied with soft but syrupy mouthfeel. Astringent. The hops struggle in vain to cover th emolasses and it dies off with burning sweetness. Not enjoyable. Oakes (6790), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Mar 1, 2006 Dark reddish-brown colour. Sticky with lots of dark fruit (cherry, plum, raisin). A bit sugary/syrupy in the body. Sweet, chewy finish. Overwhelming, one-dimensional sweetness. BückDich (4497), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 4, 2004 Perfect mohagany/tawny color, carbonated; light head & lacing. The aroma has some special b, alcohol, caramel & a good mix of other malt complexities. Balanced by the hops. This is what I will look for in an old ale from now on, not that "old peculiar". The flavor mimics the aroma, smooth & easy drinking. acrdz (4148), Pennsylvania, USA Dec 29, 2003 Dark brown with some red at the bottom of the glass. Full bodied, frothy and thick with a cherry and grape flavor, mixed with chocolate and rum. Quite good, but missing a spiced kick. Smells like cherries and that artificial grape flavor, you know, that "purple" flavor?
