BlackDonald (696), On a beer trip all over the USA, California, USA Jun 5, 2008 Another unclassifiable beer from Alameda. I don’t care for it, it’s not really true to style to me. I am hardly getting any strong hop bitterness in the flavor, a tad in the nose, but more of a creamy mouthfeel with a strong malty/nutty component, and not much else. BrewDad (1535), Olympia, Washington, USA Sep 11, 2006 [Tap]
A mild bitter. Would have expceted a stronger bitter flavor for this brew. Liked the color and the head. The beer seemed to be lacking some flavoring malts. It was easy to drink but missed the style. harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Jan 10, 2006 Deep mohogany color, great lacing and legs with a big foamy rim. Nutty nose and full of caramel. Flavor is kind of harsh at first, but slowly melds away into a velverty malty finish. DarkElf (2453), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 29, 2005 (Draft: Alameda Brewing Co. in Portland, OR) Very light bodied and somewhat bland interpretation of the ESB style, the maltiness is lightly sweet and non-descript, and the hops is lightly bitter and equally boring. Not really anything English speaking to me with this supposedly "robust" beer. Dark copper color, somewhat hazy, topped by an off-white head that leaves a patchwork of lace at the top of the glass as it fades to a small ring. Below average for the style. DA (2261), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Apr 29, 2005 On cask at the Horsebrass. Pours a dark copper/mahogany with a bubbly off-white head and tons of hops throughout. Very nice toasty caramel sweetness up front that gets quickly taken over by the big hop finish. Lots of bitterness trails of in the finish. A good big-hopped ESB.
