vyvvy (1607), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Nov 15, 2006 Pours very dark brown with a crimson hue and a dense tan head. The aroma has heavily roasted malt with a good amount of char and notes of dark chocolate. Medium / thick body with some soft carbonation. Taste has roasted malt with a good amount of char like the aroma. There is also some light fruitiness - maybe grape? The finish has most other flavors dropping out except for the char. Overall a good stout.
murawski (158), USA May 13, 2007 Tasted at St. Louis BrewFest, May 12, 2007.
Slightly thin for a stout, and had an odd palate (although I couldn’t figure out what was wrong -- maybe the bubbles, like others have mentioned). Average. Strykzone (938), Wood River, Illinois, USA May 12, 2007 A nice sweet drinking Oatmeal Stout. Offered at the Brewfest. Classic type of brew with lots of body and character. Lots of coffee roasted aromas and flavors. Nice little "zing" to it. xmarcnolanx (636), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Feb 28, 2007 A slightly sour, chickory-roasted malt with a small amount of chocolate. Where is the oatmeal presence? I detected no rounded flavoring, just a slightly sour, grainy taste to the beer. Not very good. Also, just a note, but all of their beers had very large bubbles in the head. It was not from the way they were poured, as the pours were decently correct, but I think it is just a problem with their beer. Terminus (1955), Illinois, USA Oct 29, 2006 tap at brewpub-pours dark brown with a small soapy tand head. nose of char, anise, chocolate, and roast. pretty standard, but definately pretty bold nose (all these notes are strong). nice chocolate flavors with a decent dose of char. lots of burnt char character long into the finish. some biting feeling on the tongue with some metallic corseness, the only thing wrong with this fine stout. solid!
