The name of this beer style comes from the German word “alt” meaning “old”. This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2015 12 oz pour from refrigerated bottled into a handled mug. Leans on dry. White and a hint of sweet orange in the nose. Light citrus and pleasant malts in the taste. Medium body. Smooth. A drinkable go-to beer. I didn?t have this under idea circumstances, however, so I?d love to come back and try it again sometime. Update: Trying it again. Rating actually stayed the same. Amber, clear, ample carbonation, slight head. Nose is bready and a little yeasty. Medium body and crisp. Taste is still light citrus and pleasant malts. Still a good drinkable go-to.

12 oz. bottle from BevMo. Aroma of caramel, bread, yeast. Amber brown color with three fingers of off-white head. Taste of bready caramel malt upfront, slightly fruity. Little or no hop influence. Light mouth feel, low carbonation on the tongue. Very smooth. A wonderful IPA alternative.

Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Clear, deep, pinky red. Film of off white head. Fruity, toffee, light orange hop aroma. Drinks sweet, fruity, and smooth. Mouthfeel is a tad thin. Finishes toffee sweet, with some spicy dryness. Ok.

pours a clear copper with a medium beige head. Aroma is malty, biscuity. Tastes very nice. Caramel, sweet breads, malt. Mildly sweet finish. I’ve never been a big amber fan until now. This is now my personal benchmark for the style. Good beer!
