The name of this beer style comes from the German word “alt” meaning “old”. This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

On tap - San Diego - good pour. Red with good head. Aroma is better than the taste. Has honey - but not enough. Some sweetness and caramel flavors.

Pours a reddish gold colour a creamy white head. Malty taste and aroma. Sweet caramel taste in the mouth with honeyed, slightly nutty flavours. Very pleasant tasting, warm and mouth-filling, with light bitterness. Very drinkable.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tumbler in late 2013. A: Very red. Slight head. See through. S: Super malty caramel. T: Follows the nose. M: Smooth. O: This is a great tasting amber. I’ve had nothing but good beers from Alaskan.

Clear dark copper pour with a thin creamy to oily off white head. Aroma is caramel, toast, light nutty notes, bread crust, and hints of caramelized tree fruit. Flavor is caramel, deep toasty notes, honey roasted nuts, light lactose-like sweetness, deep floral hops, spicy hops, a hint of cooked banana, bread crust and a hint of citrus. Medium body, medium to heavy, blanketing and sharp carbonation, chewy entry, drier, but still chewy finish. Really good stuff, rich and malty and sweet, but not overly sweet. Definitely over carbonated though.

Got a bottle thanks to my BinL who drove all the way to Michigan for it. A really nice cooper colored ale with modest head much like the Dusseldorf Alt ales. A little hint of yeast makes it the better

Bottle (12oz drank from bottle) Did not give this a fair chance, but generally a pretty light bodied beer with mild malts and little bitterness. Easy drinking.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2015 Nice copper amber color. I’ve had these before on draft and bottle. Splitting a bottle with the wife tonight. Very drinkable, get some malt and light caramel, light spice. Nothing over powering but plenty of taste and go down smooth. Goes well with most any kind of food. It’s a good beer, the type you can split a 6 pack with the wife and both enjoy it.

Hello Alaska! Draft--nice deep amber color with a light beige head that left lacing. Aroma was tough to detect with outside seating, seemed to be of bread and light caramel. The taste was light caramel and malt with hop on the finish. A little thinner than expected, but not bad. West End Pub, Houston.

*Reviewed On: (7/2/14): *Glassware: Nonic Pint *Serving: 12 oz *Aroma: caramel, bread, light floral hops *Appearance: Amber brown color with three fingers of off-white head. The head receded instantly, like it does when you pour a soda. No lacing was left on the glass after finishing the beer. *Taste: sweet caramel malt upfront, bread/cracker in the middle, and finishes with a mild floral hop bite. *Palate: Light-medium body, smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation on the tongue. Finishes wet, w/ a mild bitterness. *Overall: A boring and dull beer, that is really nothing special. It lacks flavor and complexity. It tastes pretty bland, and makes me not be in any hurry to get it again anytime soon. I do not know, maybe I got an old bottle. I will try and re-review it again if I get a fresher bottle in the future.
