The name of this beer style comes from the German word “alt” meaning “old”. This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

This was not quite what I was expecting. It has a smoothness, malty, breadlike quality. There are very mild hops in it - not bitter, but enough that is present. The head quickly disappears leaving a brown-copper color...like a dirty penny. Thin lacing. There is a sweetness to it too. Not a complex beer, but an easy drinking beer. Unsure if I would buy again, but I think this is one where if I am at a gathering without glasses, I could grab this and drink from the bottle. Sometimes you need beer like this.

Poured from bottle into snifter. Amber-brown color with fizzy white head that quickly completely disappears. Smell is mostly sweet dark fruits. Taste is more of the same, with some bread mixed in. Kind of thin, and pretty fizzy. Overall, not bad. Good flavor balance. A little too carbonated for me, though.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Appearance: The body has a very beautiful deep amber color with good clarity and lively carbonation flowing up the center of the glass. The quick pour made only a modest one finger tall head. This head was light tan in color and quick fading. This made for no lacing at all. Smell: The aroma is very inviting surprisingly fruity. It brings notes of dark bready maltiness with dark fruit, dark cherries, plums and apple peels. Taste / Palate: First up is a medium body mix of bready sweet maltiness blending with the same dark fruit notes from the the aroma. The finish adds notes of roasted almond and a mild balance of earthy dryness from hops. The palate feels smooth and somewhat slick.

Nice pouring ale. Rich amber, creamy head - two finger. Good aroma - toasty, grassy. Light taste, easy to drink. Light-medium bitterness, hops just come through. Smooth drinking, alcohol does not come through. Easy to drink a lot of.

Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate toffee, lighter caramel, roasted nuts, and a touch of fruit. It pours a transparent amber with a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There is some thin webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate sweet toffee, caramel, and a hint of brown sugar. The finish has light roasted nuts, toasty notes, and a hint of fruit. It’s light-medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation,

nose: cream soda, earth, toffee, palate: soft and sweet but complex. substantial carbonic acid adds a welcome edge and the texture is oily and creamy. tastes slightly smoky, malty, again cream soda but nutty and about half as sweet. superb! finish is all grainy and adds a dimension to finish this quite perfectly if you ask me.

From bottle poured into a pint glass purchased in Denver. I don't know. I guess what you would expect out of a craft amber. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap, Butter Run Saloon, St. Clair Shores, MI. Not bad for a style that can pretty much be anything you want it to be. Easy to drink. Not a bad aftertaste on the palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
