2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 maltdog (587) - Colorado, USA - MAY 19, 2005
Draught. Smokey deep, deep amber; could be called red. Nose is sugary malt and syrup. Sickly sweet with traces of biscuit and acetone. Medium bodied, thinner than I expected. Finishes sweet, watery, flabby. Hopless. Overall impression is of cola backwash. Lacks flavor, structure, and balance. They should make people drink this dreck on “fear factor”.

Pours clear red/abmer with a thin soapy white head. Aroma of light toffee, cookie malts, and some vegetable nuiances. Some chocolate, wood, brown bread crusts. A Smidgen of brown sugar. Toasty dry finish. Thin.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 asheft (2072) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 5, 2005
Clear brown with a fuzzy, beige cover. Faint, fruity aroma with some raisin/currant and a touch of caramel. Raisiny malt flavour with very subtle hops. Alcoholic banana notes. Some low bittering and a little bit of a spicy bite from the malt(?). Medium body and low carbonation. Clean finish. Nothing remarkable.

Reddish/brown hue. Sweet caramel on the front with a hop presence on the finish. Malty sweet nose. Pretty good. Slightly slick on the tongue. Definitely on the sweeter side of the spectrum.

Tasting was a draft in Anchorage that had a full amber color and nice thick white head that held. Pleasant aroma and very malty taste with a crisp clean finish. Easily had more than one.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ron (1687) - Rochester, New York, USA - APR 29, 2005
I think this was my 1st alt style beer and it took a bottle to get used to it. The 2nd and 3rd bottles were much better. Creamy with good carbonation. Tried while in California.

Amber color, off white head, spices in aroma. Creamy palate with toasted malt flavor. I very much enjoyed this though I don’t recall what the alt style is supposed to be like.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 johnyvt (158) - West Hollywood, California, USA - APR 23, 2005
Bottled. Very malty, caramel taste. Rich, creamy finish with almost no aftertaste. Lack of a hoppy finish was disappointing. thought it could have used more depth in the flavor and was a bit sweet.

My favorite amber so far. Sharp and crisp with nice toasty maltiness. Pours a deep amber and has an extremely pleasant nose. No overpowering aftertaste, even at the end of the bottle. Very light hops flavor. I liked the high carbonation level and balance. Very good beer for beginners or experienced hop-heads.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MayorQuimby (100) - Santa Barbara, California, USA - APR 19, 2005
Bottle. Pours a deep amber color, almost coppery, clear with lots of bubbles, and a compact white head that didn’t leave much lacing behind. Aroma is malty and very fruity, and I found it to be extremely pleasant. Flavor is very sweet, a bit of bitterness in the finish, but it doesn’t overpower the sweetness. Good balance between maltiness and the light fruity flavors, not much hoppiness. Mouthfeel is about right, but I thought its carbonation level was too high, I had bubbles crawling through my mouth. Overall, a respectable brew.
