The name of this beer style comes from the German word “alt” meaning “old”. This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

Nice clear dark amber pour with a somewhat smallish light cream-color head. Malty aroma of caramel and biscuit. Flavor is predominantly malt, but not overly sweet. Mostly bready malt with some caramel sweetness and just a touch of nuttiness. Light mouthfeel and just a slightly dry finish. Not terribly complex, but quite easy drinking.

short lasting head and low lacing that stick around... true amber.. very nice color. aroma is very clean.. with caramel and bigger toasted malts.. only the slightest spicy hops make themselves known. palate is again... very very clean.. very drinkable... yummy.. biscuity with low citrus/floral hops. lite to medium body and better than adequate carbonation.

Beautiful deep cooper color with red hues and brown undertones. Head is light and dissipates quick. Good Carmel and toffee sweetness, a touch dark fruits and roasted malts. Hops just to balance out and the finishes crisp. Hops slightly longer just enough to keep it from getting sticky. Very very drinkable. A very good Amber (even though it is an alt). ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Anchorage. Golden, medium carbonated with creamy head, light malty nose, light creamy taste with metallic hints and slight staleness. Lacks a bitter finish, just has a creamy aftertaste. A bit watery on the palate. Not for me.

Pours brown to red with a white head. Aromas of malt. Tastes the same with a little hops at the finish. A little sweet on the palate. Thin mouth feel. Not bad but nothing special.

0,33 bottle at a hotel bar in detroit - Powerful malty aroma with slight caramel and breadcrust. The flavor is also quite malt forward with a firm maltyness. Toasted bread. Quite crisp with a balanced finish and slight noble hops.

Bottle shared with Ran & Dale at their house in Escondido, CA, 21.4.16. Clear dark amber gold with a white head. Malt and biscuit in the nose, Ofel sensed a little bit of ginger, too. Malty and biscuity and nutty and nice taste. Light-to-medium body, soft bitterness and soft fizz, nutty and malty finish.
