3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 nearbeer (2572) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 30, 2008
Draft and bottle, several occasions. Clear darkish copper with a three-finger head that lasts well. Malty, spicy molasses aroma. Flavor is deliciously spiced caramel, turning to baked biscuit, then the slight hop comes on to dry to a toasty cocoa and nutty finish. Medium body is smooth and sessionable.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2003 crystal clear amber with a thin light tan sheet of tiny bubbles.thin in the middle but still clinging to the sides.. carmelly malt aroma.. Carmel initiation with some apple..pie crust..sugar..apple juice finish..Pretty darn sweet & malty but its an altbier..so what do you expect
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 NobleSquirrel (2570) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 13, 2011
Draft at Dad & Dude’s. Pours an attractive deep reddish copper with an off-white head. The nose is sweet, some grassy hop notes and a big malt body. On tasting, it needs more bitterness as it comes across on the sweeter side. Pretty nice malt profile with melanoidins and soft bread crust, but the sweetness is a bit much. More hops would really make this shine. Okay.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 CharlesDarwin (2570) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - MAY 1, 2007
12 Oz Pour. A gentle breeze of salty caramel wafts forth, with a touch of banana and not much else. Pouring a clear ruddied orange, the beer springs forth a rocky wheat-colored rim. Flavor touches the tongue with a unique palate and a bit of dark malt flavor. There almost seems to be some carob, or smoked wheat, or burnt toffee. Sugars seemed really subdued, glassy and glazed over. Inaccessible. Caramels ooze forth a bit, but restrain themselves. Plastic. A bubble of ester gum and yeast byproducts captures the backend, leaving an almost rotten hop character behind. Light bitterness over stale chocolate don’t make it a particularly suave drinker. Banana heat warms the middles and fades into the glassine sugar-water. Not particularly exciting.
1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20 crossovert (2544) - Wisconsin, USA - SEP 7, 2011
Not a good rendition of an altbier. It has an annoying bubblegum off-taste. Alaskan needs to bring better beers to WI.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2010 Bottle, thanks to Buckeyeboy.
Pours a very nice looking amber with minimal off-white head...
Has a light pleasing aroma of caramel, hops, I wish it was slightly stronger. Flavor of light caramel and hops, with nice slight hoppy bitter. Mouth feel was medium body, high carbonation. Not bad at all....wish I had another.....
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Terminus (2538) - Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA - FEB 25, 2002
UPDATED: OCT 27, 2003 ReRate:bottle-Well, this brew was not like i remembered it to be. This was one of my first ratings, so it was not very strict. aroma full of malt, rasins, and more malt. Flavor was more of the same, but with pears and bananas. Old world barleywine mini? Apple cider finish-quite complex. No hops to speak of other than in the long part of the finish. Schell schmaltz alt is IMO better. This sample had a bad metallic mid section to it. Thanks to Buck_Dich for this one.
