A great tasting amber with a heavy flavor and easy drinkability. A secret in the beer world as everyone I have turned on to this is happily surprised and repeat customers.

Bottle (12oz drank from bottle) Did not give this a fair chance, but generally a pretty light bodied beer with mild malts and little bitterness. Easy drinking.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2014 Nice copper amber color. I’ve had these before on draft and bottle. Splitting a bottle with the wife tonight. Very drinkable, get some malt and light caramel, light spice. Nothing over powering but plenty of taste and go down smooth. Goes well with most any kind of food. It’s a good beer, the type you can split a 6 pack with the wife and both enjoy it.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hello Alaska! Draft--nice deep amber color with a light beige head that left lacing. Aroma was tough to detect with outside seating, seemed to be of bread and light caramel. The taste was light caramel and malt with hop on the finish. A little thinner than expected, but not bad. West End Pub, Houston.

*Reviewed On: (7/2/14):
*Glassware: Nonic Pint
*Serving: 12 oz
*Aroma: caramel, bread, light floral hops
*Appearance: Amber brown color with three fingers of off-white head. The head receded instantly, like it does when you pour a soda. No lacing was left on the glass after finishing the beer.
*Taste: sweet caramel malt upfront, bread/cracker in the middle, and finishes with a mild floral hop bite.
*Palate: Light-medium body, smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation on the tongue. Finishes wet, w/ a mild bitterness.
*Overall: A boring and dull beer, that is really nothing special. It lacks flavor and complexity. It tastes pretty bland, and makes me not be in any hurry to get it again anytime soon. I do not know, maybe I got an old bottle. I will try and re-review it again if I get a fresher bottle in the future.

"this is an old standby. always pretty good, never great. nicely balanced, malty brew, with just enough hops to take notice. just about on par with full sail. get it if it’s on sale."

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2014 12 oz bottle served in a Lager glass.
A: Pours a beautiful an absolutely clear copper color forming a small, thin bubbled and creamy beige head. Medium retention and no lacings left in the glass. A thin layer remains on the top for a long time
S: Strong notes of caramel in the nose. Caramel malts, Munich malts. Crispy and bready but a little bit fruity as well. Notes of honey and raisins. Light flowery hops
T: Slightly sweet and toffee upfront. Some notes of caramel, crystal and Munich malts. In overall, a slightly sweet and bready taste which is a bit fruity as well. Reminds a Vienna Lager. More to a Lager than to an Ale, IMHO. Very mild hoppy bitterness in the end
M: Light, smooth and a bit molasses body. Medium to low carbonation. Caramel and sweet malts in the aftertaste
O: Good drinkability. A bit too sweet. Nevertheless, quite pleasant, smooth and easy drinking. Recommended

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a crystal clear amber-stained wood color with a fair beige head that settles to a thick film and leaves some touches of soapy lace. Nose involves cherry, date bread, some toasted malt, some green herbal hops, some crusty bread dough. Decently sweet, somewhat bitter. Medium to light body, creamy, fluffy, decent action, finishing toasty, fruity, and dry. Cool brew. In some ways, kind of average with a somewhat muted nose and milder flavor, but in other ways it has some nice character, especially on the palate. Over all, it’s quite enjoyable, priced right, and I would grab more next time I’m in MIchigan.
