The name of this beer style comes from the German word “alt” meaning “old”. This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2013 I really just downloaded this app because I have a horrible memory, so I won?t get technical... Allen, it’s a good beer, but ambers aren’t your favorite.

I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650ml bottle from Lee’s discount liquor store Las Vegas. Red brown, good head. Malty toffee aroma. Caramel malt flavour. Sour aftertaste. Not good. Only chose it because I liked the artwork and have a matching glass.

Pours dark copper w/ a thin white head & not much lacing. The aroma is caramel & malt. The taste is clean & smooth. Not a ton going on flavor wise but nicely balanced & easy on the palate. Solid beer overall!

On tap @ The Hickory Lodge (Worthington, MN). Poured amber in color, clear, medium off white head, nice lacing. Aroma of malts and caramel combined with fruits. Taste is sweet and malty, nutty, and grain, some hops for good measure. Very easy to drink, quite enjoyable.

Draft - Nice Amber color. Good malt sweetness but overly so. There is a nice hop bitterness to cut the sweetness almost perfectly. After the brewery tour the BBQ style of fermentation (low and slow) really helps balance out the flavor profile and nudge that alcohol percentage up.

12 ounce bottle from the sampler pack. Pretty nice looking amber beer with good carbonation. High viscosity through the use of caramel malts with low hop bitterness and no hop aroma. I do like the fact that this amber ale is not dry hopped, but if it is supposed to be similar to German Altbier, it is way off the mark. Nonetheless, a quite enjoyable amber ale which I think many people will find quite pleasant.
