Pours a deep amber. A pleasent session beer, well balanced between rounded malts and enough hops to keep things interesting, though sweeter than I might have expected or preferred.
thegreenrooster (1528), St.louis, Missouri, USA Oct 15, 2008 Pour is a dark brown with a big tan head that stays around for a while. Aroma is all things caramel malts. Not much else comes through. Flavor is again nice deep caramel malts and some light flowery hops follow up after the swallow. A good example of the style. jhumphries69 (537), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Oct 13, 2008 Draft at Library Alehouse in Santa Monica, CA. Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights and a light tan head. The aroma is toast, toffee, and fruit. The flavor follows the aroma: sweet, toasty, caramel toffee, subtle chocolate, unexpectedly ester-fruity. The finish is full, and the mouthfeel is medium-full in body with soft carbonation. Overall, a very interesting ale. I’ve never had an authentic altbier, so I can’t speak to the accuracy of this product, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. danielcurtis81 (139), San Diego, California, USA Oct 11, 2008 Draft. Pours a red toned amber. Little head. Smells very malty. Flavors are a bit too sweet. No real direction sweetness a little muddled.. Sticky on the palate. OK, but nothing too special. m4rest88 (79), Beverly Hills, California, USA Oct 10, 2008 Pours with an amber/copper hue with a white head that was mostly diminishing after 2 minutes. Aroma of caramel, malts, some nuts, metal, and some very light hoppiness. I really enjoyed this aroma.
Flavor has a sweet beginning with some citrus flavoring along with some other fruits. The end is hoppy.
Light-Moderate carbonation with a light body.
A decent beer, that I will look for again! Edgekrusher (58), , Alabama, USA Oct 8, 2008 Bottled. Very Drinkable. Not a bad beer. Small head and very little hop aroma.
