COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our flagship beer is based on a turn-of-the-century recipe that quenched the thirst of miners during the Klondike Gold Rush. Smooth and richly malty, this altbier goes well with any meal.

Bottle 355ml @ [ Tasting in Ulfborg ].
[ Courtesy of kpresley77 ]. Clear medium amber color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, hay, roasted, nutty, cream-caramel, light hoppy, grass, light to moderate yeasty. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and light bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (110708)

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2008 Looks nicer than it tastes, with an unsurprising clear dark amber filling the glass. Smells malty and nutty, tastes the same with some slight caramel. Light hops are welcome. The malt is pretty good in this one, pretty flavorful and not too watery. It’s not a beer that’s going to change your life but I like it a lot more than the other ambers I’ve had.

One of the most attractive beers I’ve seen: warm copper color and a billowy white head. Holds its own in taste, too, with a nice sweet and bitter combo (mostly sweet, especially on the finish). This is the best of the Alaskans (so far) that I’ve tried.

On draft at The Garage in Seattle. Pour is clear copper with a nice off white head. Aroma is sweet malt. Taste is more of the sweetness, with a nice full palate. Nothing really jumps out on this one, but it is a nice smooth, very drinkable beer. I was quite surprised to see this listed as Altbier, rather than Amber Ale. I guess it is the lagering that made this so drinkable.

Looked better than it tasted. Beautiful pour. Sweet malty notes and taste, but lacking that little bit of hop balance that this style requires. There are better ambers out there - this one is not the best, but certainly not a bad beer by any means.

Hazy amber pour from a 12 oz bottle that can be found throughout Washington state but nowhere near where I live in Kentucky. I agree with other reviewers who say that fine, malty beer is quite sessionable.

Aroma is a little lacking, but it pours a very nice, uhmm amber. Taste is initially some malty sweetness but just as it fades some dryness kicks in. Very balanced and enjoyable.

This beer is really pretty decent, but still nothing much to it. I like some more complexity.
