3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 KyotoLefty (3480) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 21, 2010
Bottle bought in CA. Orange-amber color. Low, fine head. Nutty, roasted aroma, rich but not fragrant. Fruity, quite sweet for alt, with a touch of citrus and a bit nutty. Sweet and sour finish, with roasted malt. Fruitier than your average alt, though otherwise a pretty straightforward interpretation of the style. Light and refreshing, flavorful and very well done, but lacking the depth and complexity of the fresh Dusseldorf alts.

Minty, earthy, pear notes from the yeast. Lots of crystal malt. Not bitter enough for the designation "alt".

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - OCT 26, 2010
Serving: 12 oz. bottle.
Aroma: The nose is malty with a slight toasted note and some caramel.
Appearance: It pours a nice amber color with a frothy, off-white head. There is decent head retention.
Taste: The flavor favors the malt with some bread and caramel. It’s leans to the sweet side, but there is enough grassy hops to provide some balance.
Palate: Medium bodied with average carbonation and a short to medium, slightly sweet finish.
Overall: Not a bad session brew and a pretty decent amber. Definitely worth drinking.

Very drinkable amber. Balanced hops and malt, but very tame overall. Good for the domestic beer drinker who wants to branch out. I would drink this out with the guys at a bar, but would probably chose a bolder beer at home. Comparable to Michelob Amber Boch in my honest opinion.
