scoth (266), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Nov 8, 2009 2009 vintage. Pours inky dark brown, with a thin tan head, fine lacing. Aroma of chocolate, cherries, coffee, molasses and oak. Medium-full body, crisp, lightly dry. Rich and chewy malt, very sweet with flavors of molasses, cherry, chocolate, and vanilla. A lightly dry citrus and oakey finish. Warming. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Nov 6, 2009 22 oz bottle purchased at Lee’s Discount Liquor while in Las Vegas. Dark body. Thin creamy head. Dark fruit, chocolate, toffee, vanilla wafer, and an oak presence. Slight cereal taste in finish. I wasn’t so impressed with this one. pantanap (1322), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 6, 2009 22oz bottle from a trade from a few months back... pours close to black with reddish brown edges and a medium very light beige head... aroma of cherries and very big on green apples for some reason. kind of odd... flavors of cherries and less of a green apple presence. more considerable chocolate and roast come through. medium carbonation and body. enjoyed this less than smuttyness. IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Nov 3, 2009 Updated: Nov 4, 2009Surprised to see this at the Co-Op tonight and had to take it home. Bottle poures a clear but dark brown with a deep tan and fine head. Aroma is of brown sugar, vanilla and a bit boozy. Can’t quite pick out the cherries but prominent dark fruit and raisins are noticeable. Flavor is roasty and a bit more smokey and charred than I expected. Actually now that I think of it, I am picking up the flavor that is nearly exactly of the charred oak cubes I have for my Home-brewing. Pretty highly attenuated and the feel is fairly dry and a littel thin. Smooth and soft though with fine subtle carbonation. A woody somewhat ashen trailer. Nice flavors, but left me wishing for something a little more heavy and substantial. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Nov 1, 2009 Bomber, a few months old.
Alaskan continues to impress. Pours dark, dark brown with a tan head. Sweet soy-sauce aroma with maraschino cherry. Slightly smoky, again soy, chocolate, cherry notes, vanilla. A bit hot especially at colder temperatures this one comes into its own at room temperature and should be served no colder than celler temp in the future. This is a darn good interpretation of a Baltic porter. Right on! Skyview (3948), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Nov 1, 2009 Picked up a 22-oz bomber from Liquid Solutions internet sales. Pours an opaque dark brown colored brew with tan head that slowly dissipates to a thin film top. Aroma of caramel malt, dark chocolate, a hint of cherries and vanilla. Taste is medium to full bodied, flavors of roasted dark malt, chocolate, some black licorice, a hint of toffee and some candi sugar. Finish is semi-sweet with aftertaste of chocolate, vanilla and light berries that slowly disappears. Alcohol is well hidden. killjoy966 (215), Washington, USA Oct 31, 2009 This is a heavy, thick-feeling beer. Sweet with a dense, malty taste. Smells of vanilla and cherries. Big complex beer with a little more going on than I’m comfortable with. But solid and tasty nonetheless. jimbowood (947), Athens, Georgia, USA Oct 30, 2009 Bottle from naven. Wonderful aroma of chocolate covered cherries. Huge depth of flavors with vanilla, choc, cherries, oak, licorice, and dark fruit flavors. Long, licorice, vanilla, and cherry finish. Really good.
