COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alaskan Barley Wine has been produced in limited edition vintages each year since its introduction in 2003. A big beer for big winters, this brew has garnered a steady following in Alaska. Bottled for the first time in 2007, the balanced flavor collaboration between hops, malt and high alcohol showcases the barley wine style, winning first place at the 2007 Toronado Barley Wine Festival and bronze at the 2008 World Beer Cup.

Bottle from Davis Coop...2010. Aroma was of grape juice and bubble gum...sort of a rich, yet traditional, version of the genre. Flavor was more of the same with slight hop to balance the sweetness and thick maltiness present in the palate. This beer suffered as it warmed. Seemed to pair nicely with kettle corn. Murky brown pour with a thin white head. Raisin and fig dark fruit with brown sugar and caramel in the nose. Mild oxidation. Caramel molasses and dark fruit with brown sugar and hints of cardboard. Thick rich palate with low carbonation.

651mL 2007 ed. Clear ruby cola pour- darker for style. Medium, tan head forms with nice, webby lace. Big orange mint nose typical for style with big raisins and dark fruits. Taste is brown sugar, bitter chocolate, red fruits, big sugar character. Spicy bitterness attempts to balance a behemoth of a sweet beer. Good stuff. Has to be sipped.

Bottle: Ruby brown pour with a thick foamy tan head. aroma is woody, fruity, raisin, plum cherry, some toffee. Somewhat of a rum fruitcake flavour to it. Toffee, dark fruits. vanilla and woody hop. Hint of spice? Great palate, nice body. Very solid overall.

a very delicious barley wine. it pours copper color with thick head, the aroma is grapefruit and the flavor is intensely hoppy.

Pours a beautiful deep garnet color. Decent foam head with quick dissipation. Nose is Northwest hops, a bed of flowers, fruit, and sweet alcoholic elixir along with some caramel malts. Taste is heavy rum fruitcake or raisins soaked in scotch, some chocolate and spices. Medium body leaning toward the heavy side of things and definitely the best thing I’ve had from this brewer. Bravo!

Date: January 23, 2012 Mode: Bottle Source: AV3 Description: Translucent reddish brown pour with nice head that hangs around and good lacing. Aroma is dark fruit, caramel, spice, and alcohol. Taste is similar to aroma, the heat from the alcohol is prominent and finishes bitter and nutty. A nice BW, not too sweet which can be a downfall of some in this category. 2011 bottle.

2007 bottle. Very dark and hazy chestnut color, medium tan head with good retention. Aroma of sweet caramel syrup. Taste is sweet butterscotch and light spice. Nice.
