gator2683 (96), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Mar 7, 2008 2007 thick, dark brown pour with no head. brief sweet taste and then it has a spicy hop finish
raphael (301), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 29, 2008 Such sweetness, then the alcohol—maple, caramel, cognac soaked cherries, pine sap. Clear mahogany, with a thin light brown head that lingers a little. The flavors are attacking my mouth—couldn’t smell hops but now I know they’re in there. Not as much in the flavor as in the mouth, where it also carries a little density Had this in the basement for 10 months—the beer could have held out longer-- and turned out a good pick for review 300. A fruitiness out front in the flavor I cant define, grapes might come closest, caramel, alcohol, pine resin and smoke.

Hophead22 (359), Redlands, California, USA Nov 2, 2008 22oz bottle thanks to pantanap, big thanks Kan. Beautiful mahogany color. Awsome aroma as well. lots of dark malts and fruits, very rich. Real good bitterness up front to go with the luxurious maltiness . Just got better as it warmed, a truly outstanding Barleywine. GregClow (2369), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 27, 2008 Bottle shared with jerc, mabel, blankboy & HogTownHarry - courtesy of jerc & mabel. Ruby-mahogany with a wispy tan head. Aroma of burnt sugar, cola, caramel and resiny hops. Light-to-medium bodied. Flavour of barley candy, caramel, orange zest, with citric hops and a mild booze heat to finish. Aside from being a bit lighter bodied that I prefer, this was a fantastic barley wine! TheEpeeist (1032), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 27, 2008 22 oz bottle, 2007. Just clear crimson brown with a smattering of tan froth. Nose is pineapple, caramel and spruce. Smooth medium body with a nice spritzy tingle. Taste is caramel, mango and orange peel but still retaining a piney grapefruit bite. I’m not usually a fan of hoppy barleywines but this one is done quite well. Slick (1958), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA Oct 20, 2008 Bottle from an Alaskan friend.Nice small tan head that had a decent hang time then faded leaving a little lace behind.Good amber red color. The aroma was nicely malty with some decent hints of caramel and maybe a slight twinge of fruit in there as well. The flavor was pretty decent malty fruity taste with some caramel and or maybe some toffee notes.Theres a slight hint of alcohol upfront but it seems to fade quickly leaving a slightly oily fruity feel on the palate. This a fairly good brew, but then i don’t think i’ve ever had a bad brew yet from these guys.Well worth trying again and thankfully i have a couple more for later trials.
