3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from BevMo: Created a thick fluffy head that looked like beaten egg whites where as the liquid was a dark opaque brown. The aroma was mild and tended to have more roast malts than hops but thatís fine with me so long as it tastes good. However, the drink comes up short with only a subtle touch of roasty malts that donít suggest much other than a cold decaf coffee flavor. The same results occur with the hops, they come up empty and are no where to be found. Overall this is a tame and boring black IPA.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from the bottle. Aroma was great, citrus hops, and roasted malt. Flavor also reflects the aroma. Wow, one solid black ipa! good lacing, thin tan head.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Republic bar. Black color. Mild aroma of hops and roasted grain. Flavor is mild hops also, as well as roasted malt with oatmeal. Very smooth palate, but I would like more intense flavor.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 14, 2012 Bottle... Poured Near black with reddish highlights and a beige head. Nice lacing and retention. Some dense malt flavors. Sweet and fruit esters. Leafy, earthy hop spices. Light body, thin carbonation. Floral, grapefruit hops. Little drying towards the finish. Malty flavors came back in too offering some ask-like roast. Good hoppy flavor with a low bitterness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Woodmans. Pours very dark brown with faint reddish tints, and a foamy chocolate milk head leaving great lacing. Aroma has grassy hops and chocolate. Very nice! Taste brings chocolate nibs, pine, some citrusy flavor and a bit of caramel malt back. Finishes sweetly chocolatey with a twist of grapefruit. A bit short. Really nice balance and flavors. Not too thick or strong, or it would be a terrific porter. Impressive.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle from Plaza Liquors - Pours a dark brown color with a one and a half finger thick light tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma is pine and floral hops with some roasted malt in the background. Flavor is much of the same with the addition of some chocolate in there. The finish is the same as the front end. Hops and malt. Medium to full body. A very good beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Brown-black amber. Thin beige head. Quite reminiscent of Sierra Nevada Stout in some respects, this is a really solid, well executed beer. Its more on the roasty chocolate side of the spectrum, lots of hop character still, but doesnít really have that minty bitterness or syrupy that screams Black IPA...which makes it a little more sessionable. Still a really good beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle from the store. Big frothy head sitting on top of a nearly black body. Looks pretty good to me. Pine and citrus hops dominate. Subtle chocolate in there, but itís VERY subtle. Lots of chocolate out first, but the chocolate flavor is nearly drowned out by the sharp citrus hop flavor, that leaves a caustic bitterness on the taste buds. Long, drawn out subtle ashy taste isnít that bad. The texture is crap, and this beer is way to slick, and watery for my liking. Chocolate notes are interesting, but not enough to save íer.
