3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a bright, semi clear reddish amber with a medium white head. A fresh aroma finds grapefruit, mango, pineapple, grassy hops, and hints of pine. The taste is very dry and yields good hoppy bitterness. There are plenty of grassy hops and is quite fruity, with pineapple, orange, milder grapefruit and still a little bit of pine. Short fruity aftertaste. More light in body, slick in texture, with about average carbonation. This is very refreshing and easy to drink. I could find myself happily drinking a bunch of these. If I could find this in my part of the world, I’d buy this often.

Wow...not a big fan of pale ales and not expecting to like this one but it went down very smooth with a nice finish. Not sure off the top of my head but this may be my highest rated pale ale.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice, bright and refreshing APA. Tangerine notes with light bittering like orange peel, but not overwhelmingly citrusy. Finish is clean, crisp, and doesn’t clobber the palate with hoppiness. Relatively dry and easy to drink.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained tiny bubbled, ivory head, with slight lacing, over a clear, light amber (SRM 7) body....nose is pine, resin, citrus peel from the hops, light sweet malts with toffee/caramel hints, no esters......taste is lightly sweet malt with hints of toffee/caramel, light floral hops, pine, resin notes, light citrus hints, with a moderate lingering bitterness......mouth feel, body light of medium, no alcohol or astringency, finishing clean, with light acid. This is a slightly light take on an APA. Balance is slightly to the hops, making for a very clean beer, but the bitterness is on the margin of being too low. A slight addition to the early hop time in the boil would not be remiss. BJCP 7/3/14/4/6

Pours a nice amber color, slightly off white head. Hoppy aroma, citrus, pine, and some grass; all follow onto the palate, but more citrus and pine than grass. Finishes pretty clean.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
August 13th, 2012 - You don’t see this one in every remote bar and corner of Alaska, but Alaskan Brewery’s Freeride APA is another one of the core drinkables coming out of the surprisingly small and quaint brewery tucked up in our country’s most rugged state. It pours with a thick foamy head, even in a laughably inappropriate small plastic cup - the kind reserved for daycares and hospital lunch trays. And yet again, against the odds, I catch a clear and redolent aroma of sharp, sweet hops, a touch of pine, and a smattering of white grape juice. A busy palate leads the beer onto the tongue, with a flat, rusty and metallic IPA taste, and concluding with a strangely dry crystal malt style pilsener finished. It’s a curious beer, but quite good, and so far, more engaging than the other ubiquitous Alaskan Brewery beers.
