Had a lot higher hopes for this. Poured with a great, large, foamy, off white head that lasts a while and good lacing. Color is a clear dark yellow. Aroma is a mild blend of hop, caramel, malt. Flavor has nose and some wet cardboard. Body is good and so is carbonation. Finish is like flavor and of short to medium length.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Thorpe429 (3542) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - DEC 1, 2010
Pours a dark copper gold win a white head and some good lady streaks as it goes down the glass. Aroma is some caramel malt presiding over some floral and citrus hops. Neither really dominates, but the hops aren’t particularly strong. Taste is much the same with a bit off sweetness balanced out some bitterness. Lift to medium body with good carbonation. Drinks pretty well, but not one of the better IPAs we picked up on our West Coast trip.

On tap in the Seattle airport. Incredibly clear. Yellowy amber with a thin bubbly white cap and tons of early lacing. Candylike aroma of sweet peaches, cotton candy, light caramel, light pine - smells juicy somehow. Tasty yet a touch thin. Lots of sharp pine and citrus hit quick. Tangy. Big bitterness with grapefruit, sweetness, apricot / orange and xaramel with seems only serve as a background flavor. Spicy and sharp. Incredibly carbonated - as in over carbonated. I really like the sharp citrus and pine bite that comes across blunt and clean. The last beer of my trip unless more flights are cancelled.

The Alaskan IPA has a beautiful golden color. The first taste is a relaxing malty presence followed my the sharp hoppy finish that makes this IPA so delicious.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with white head. Aroma of pine, some citrus and a bit of caramel. Flavor is very much the same with a nice malty back bone, lightly sweet and a hint of earthiness. Mouth feel is medium body with high carbonation. Overall, pretty good!

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2011 12oz bottle split. Filtered, relatively light orange-tan. Small, soapy head. Pretty clean and easy drinking. This is a classic IPA, dry and resinous. Well done.
