3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 vyvvy (2798) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - SEP 2, 2007
Another recent rating where I’m shocked at the low overall score. Pours clear copper with a good amount of an off-white head. The aroma has lots of citric hops, bits of pineapple, some sweetness and a good toasted malty backbone. Medium body that is more full & rich than most IPAs. There is some nice soft carbonation. The flavor starts with a citrus and pineapple blend to give a bold / rich hoppy presence. There is a bit of bitterness with the hops which is nice and some good underlying malt to balance. The finish is clean with some additional piny and spicy hops. A very well crafted IPA. Many thanks go out to Terminus for picking this treat up for me.

This beer is for those who want to pretend they are drinking IPA.There is nothing wrong with this beer, a transition beer to be sure, but the lack of hops disqualifies it from being an IPA

Bomber purchased at the Covell Nugget in Davis, CA. Aroma has plenty of C-hops. I defintely get some cascades and centennials in there. Plenty of citrus grapefruity hop aromas along with a few pine notes. A litte bit of cereal graininess is also detected in the nose, too. Fairly aromatic. Transparent golden body with an orange tint. Relatively frothy light pastel yellow head with nice lacing. Hmm. Has a weird metallic astringency to start. Some carboard-swampy flavors come in the middle. Some modest and mostly subdued herbal and lightly grapefruited hops finish this beer. Just seems like it is lacking some bitterness and some bite. A very tame IPA, despite the promising aroma.

On tap at Phyllis’s Cafe and Salmon Bake, Anchorage. Cloudy amber to orange-brown body, thick puffy off-white head. Nose of bitter pine and citrus rind (grapefruit), resinous, backed by caramel and breads. Potent sugary body with citrusy, piny, resinous hops and fleshy peach pit. Sweet, sticky, prickly, and potent. Nice.

Bottle... Poured a slightly hazy, still transparent, dark orange with a frothy, white head. Hop and malt aroma.. Typical IPA palate with flavors of strong, beefy, earthy hops up front, followed by a smooth malt finish. With other sweet and floral arrangements of flavors in between. Very crisp and refreshing, but somewhat mellow.

12 oz. bottle - Pours a clear orangish-golden color with a one and a half finger thick off white head. Light lacing. Has an herbal hop aroma. Very light malt presences with a light citrus zing. Light to medium body. Slight bitter palate. A decent beer.

Bronze gold with clean whiffs of PNW hops and a similarly clean, crisp palate of fresh hops with perhaps some Chinook bitterness that is enjoyable on the finish. Not as good as their ESB, but this is a very solid and drinkable APA/IPA.

(11/4/08) Bottle at some place called "Sneak Joint" in Mission Beach, San Diego, that is standing where Liar’s Club used to be. Slightly hazy deep golden color. Aroma of hops, citrus hints and a bit of malt. Sweetish malty flavor at first that continues hoppy and bitter with pine and light floral and citrus notes. Medium-bodied. Not bad.
